  • NAK Hair Metallics Insta Competition Winners

A big congratulations to the winners in the NAK Hair Metallics competition. This competition, held in 2020, was open to all hairstylists who produced creative work in the salon, using the fabulous newly released NAK Metallics colour range. Stylist: Stef Salon: Style Bar Palmyra Formula: My color and application was rather simple, I started to pre lighten the whole head in foils off the scalp. The crown area was lightened with a lower volume peroxide to give a warmer appearance. Once the Lightner has developed, we rinsed and shampooed with NAK Nourish shampoo, no conditioner was used. I dried the hair slightly and applied the root color 7.313 with 5 volume, I smudged the color down slightly to give me a softer blend between colors. Once the roots where done I immediately started with the Mid-lengths and ends, I alternated with 10.68 & 8.212 with 5 volume and melted different sections down with the root color. We rinsed the color, no shampoo and conditioned the hair with Hydra Therapy Mask. The hair was then dried & styled. We did the make-up and I then took the after shots. Stylist: Rochelle Salon: Style Bar Village Square Formula: I've thoroughly enjoyed working with this range and the results, I'm truly impressed with the quality and shine this product gives. Starting this competition I really wanted to showcase something eye catching yet Elegant and soft, I've used the # YingYang application technique because it Represents 2020 to me.. Colour's used on Pre - Lightened base On the ying side Nak 7. 212 On the yang side Nak 9.212 With Nak Demi Activator. • Milkshake Launches New Decologic “Black Light” Lightener for Cool Blond Shades

What a stunning launch! milk_shake has pioneered a highly efficient lightening solution to create those sought-after cool blond shades in hair. Using brand new technology, decologic black light can lighten hair up to 7 levels, while eliminating warm tones from the hair. This black lightening cream has a double action. • Charcoal and pigments inhibit the warm melanin within the hair, for natural-looking neutral, cool or grey colour tones depending on the base level and oxidising strength. • Fruit sugar complexes repair and protect the hair during lightening. The combination of the lightener strength, the dark pigments, and the precious oligosaccharides create perfect blonde shades, leaving hair healthy and nourished. The special components within the cream base create a soft emulsion that makes the product gentle on the hair, with maximum respect, while effectively lightening up to 7 levels. Easy to use, it won’t drip or expand, and will maintain fluidity during application. The Power of Charcoal Black, weightless, plant based charcoal can absorb particles that are harmful to the scalp and hair while supporting the ultramarine pigment that counteracts yellow and brassy tones, for a perfect grey-neutral result. Fruit Oligosaccharides These fructans are very flexible and mobile, able to penetrate deeply into the hair, filling the empty spaces to give body to weakened or damaged hair fibres. They keep the hair’s surface hydrated and offer protection from the alkaline effect of lightening. Active Ingredients Decologic black light also contains: Organic cranberry extract – this is packed with precious vitamins and minerals, as well as plant flavonoids to protect and revitalise hair. Clay – the golden clay from Brazil is highly compatible with hair and smoothes the cuticle, helping to repair the hair for a glorious appearance. Silk proteins – these have a high affinity with the hair’s keratin, conditioning and protecting for manageability and shine. Argan oil – this covers the hair shaft, protecting it from heat and styling tools, while nourishing it and making it shinier and easier to comb. White beeswax – this emolient product contains a rich blend of lipids to protect the scalp and hair. Eco-friendly packaging – the aluminium tube is fully recyclable, and the box is made with sustainably managed FSC-certified paper. • Eco-Friendly Kao is Rated Triple A for Climate Change, Forest and Water by CDP

Kao, the parent company of Goldwell and KMS, is the first-ever Japanese company to receive the prestigious Triple A score, as rated by the leading international organisation CDP. The rating is based on a global survey of company’s responses to climate change, and their activities in safeguarding forests and water security. Only 10 companies out of the 5,800 companies evaluated were selected for the A list in all three categories. Kao has previously received A-ratings on this list in climate change and water security. Their work in safeguarding forests led to their first A rating in this category, which resulted in this phenomenal triple-A score. “It is a great honour to be awarded a triple A score in CDP’s rankings. Kao is committed to purpose-driven innovation by integrating ESG – Environmental, Social and Governance – into the core of the company’s management. This recognition will encourage us even more to pursue a purposeful business and to help people live a more sustainable, Kirei lifestyle – a beautiful life inside and out,” explains Dave Muenz, executive in charge of ESG at Kao Corporation. The positive evaluation that led to inclusion in the A lists was based on the following points: • Kao’s setting of CO2 reduction targets, it’s ‘eco together’ activities with other stakeholders, and its proactive disclosure of climate change related risks and opportunities. • Kao’s public commitment to supporting reduction of forest destruction to zero through two sets of procurement guidelines – Sustainable Palm Oil and Sustainable Paper and Pulp. These take ethical issues into account. • Kao’s positioning of water conservation as a key action item in its global strategy, its efforts to reduce water usage in production, and provide water saving products, and its collaboration with other stakeholders. Kao will continue to strive for even greater progress in all these categories, manufacturing and distributing their high quality products in a way that protects the planet and contributes to the sustainability of society. Registration and Compliance It is very important that all chair rentals comply with the correct industry legislation and that they are properly registered and up to date with the basic Bargaining Council fees as stipulated. This ensures that every business operating from the premises is compliant and correctly registered, providing peace of mind for all parties as well as clients! Please contact the Bargaining Council for any assistance in this regard. www.hcsbc.co.za Contracts and Agreements A chair rental agreement is only as good as the contract that governs it! A proper contract will protect all parties and ensure peace of mind and a harmonious working relationship. As part of the EOHCB membership, assistance with contracts is offered – please contact them for more info and assistance. www.eohcb.co.za Rental vs Employment There are many salons at this time offering two options: chair rental, or to be employed by the salon. If you prefer to work as an employee then please get in touch with the salon and discuss whether this is an option.

  • From Balayage To Illuminage: 2021

By Elizma Crouse National Education Manager Modern Hair & Beauty Elizma has a huge passion for training and development and her love for paperwork is endless. She is very enthusiastic person who loves to work with people, to inspire and motivate them. Living a healthy lifestyle is very important to her but she believes that everything in life needs good balance. Life is short, eat the cake… 2021 is the year that Wella Professionals will showcase the broad ways in which you can lighten and tone clients' hair. Our portfolio of products is designed to support you at every step. The popularity of balayage and blonding services continues to grow and inspires this season's movement: from balayage to Illuminage. With lightening and toning services at the core, the diverse colour palette that Wella Professional offers features an array of light and natural shades. These ensure that you are fully equipped with the inspiration and knowledge needed to achieve the most beautiful looks which graduate from high contrast to soft harmony. Blondes "Already in 1987, women are more likely to dye, tint, or streak their hair blonde than any other color" - A. Synnott. In 2000, a study showed that blonde models were consistently rated younger and healthier looking than brunettes and darker haired people. (Matz & Hinsz) Today, the trend is still growing. Balayage In 2018*, 'blonde' was the most searched term relating to hair colour, followed by 'balayage'. And in 2021, it's not just about being blonde; people prefer to have highlights that show the natural, or darker hair colour at the root making the result look more natural. Looks are multi-tonal, revealing highs and lows within the colour result. This can be achieved through multiple highlighting techniques, the most popular one being balayage. This year's desired blonde is balayage • It's multi-tonal and natural-looking • It's easier to maintain • It allows a client to stay 'true to their roots' • It can be adapted from subtle lightening to a dramatic blonde transformation The colour palette of the season focuses on subtle pale shades complimented by natural deeper tones, to allow stylists to explore the opportunities in multi-dimensional colour results, much like Illuminage. From bright blondes and peachy tones to darker brunettes and fun silvers, the colour palette offers a wide range of colours for the stylists to play with and combine to achieve looks inspired by this season's colour movement. Balayage has become such a widely used term that it's difficult to clearly define the 'final look'. From exploring the space, Wella Professionals is distinguishing the results by introducing two additional services to complement the classic 'balayage': Balayage A graduation from light to dark with a seamless blend. Balayage creates a full-head, lighter feel with a shadowed root. Suited to clients who seek a sun-kissed look or overall lightness. Illuminage An elegant and expressive way to detail and accentuate areas within the hair, giving clients soft transitions, luminosity, and multi-tonal reflections with an ultra-natural sheer result from cool blonde to sublime brunette or gentle reds. Brazilian Illuminage Perfect for those who seek clarity and brightness. The accentuated contrast of this looks both frames the face and lengths of the hair with light while giving a seamless transition from a more natural root. A shadowed root with threads of brightness melted into enhanced lightness on the ends. Benefits of the stocking the additional palettes and learning the latest techniques Salon benefits • Become the expert of blondes • Increase spent per client • Get easy access to education for your staff on the latest trends Client benefits • Get the blonde look of their dreams without damaging their hair • Benefit from nice sell-out activities Reach out to your Sales Consultant to get the latest educational offers.
