- Style Inspiration: Terracing Collection by Dexter Johnson
Terracing draws inspiration from the dynamic interplay of diverse identities, united by a shared passion and community spirit. This collection celebrates individuality through a fusion of bold shapes, distinct colours, and unique styles. Each model represents a different persona—from mod and rude-boy to rocker and businessman—embodying the variety within the same ‘club’. Through contrasting yet complementary hairstyles and the iconic football kits they wear, Terracing highlights the beauty of diversity and how these identities can harmoniously coexist. Just like the terraces of a stadium filled with fans from all walks of life, this collection stands as a powerful tribute to unity in diversity. - Important 2025 Hairnews Industry Awards Update
It is with sincere regret that we announce the postponement of the Hairnews Industry Awards, but only for 2025! Last year, we made the decision to shift the timeline for entries and voting, in hopes that this change would be more manageable for everyone involved. Unfortunately, this meant that not everyone who wanted to share their gorgeous work was able to do so in the timeframe. We believe strongly that the Hairnews Awards should reflect the full scope of talent, passion, and excellence within our stylists, salons, industry brands and educators. With all the artistic creativity of the South African hair and beauty industry, we want to really be able to showcase a fair and accurate representation of our amazing stylists and their incredible work. We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who took the time this year to participate. Your continued support means the world to us. The Hairnews Industry Awards will return in early 2026 — refreshed, re-energised, and with a timeline that better suits the rhythm of our amazing industry. Thank you for your understanding and continued commitment to excellence. Warm regards, The Hairnews Team

- Repair Revolution: Transform Hair with the milk_shake® Integrity Reconstruction System
We are thrilled to introduce a new era in hair restoration with the milk_shake® Integrity Reconstruction System — a revolutionary two-step reconstruction service designed to restore strength, health, and beauty to even the most damaged hair. Why Hair Breaks Down Hair damage is more common than ever. Harsh chemical treatments, excessive heat styling, environmental stressors, and UV exposure all contribute to weakened, brittle strands. When hair begins to feel dry, dull, and fragile, it’s time for a professional rescue. That’s where the milk_shake® Integrity Reconstruction System steps in — a cutting-edge, customizable treatment that acts at the core of the hair fibre to rebuild from within . The Two-Step Technology Behind the Transformation 1. Foundation Phase: Rebuild from Within This essential first step targets the heart of the hair fibre. A special network forms around the most damaged areas, reconstructing the internal structure and building strength from the inside out. 2. Fixing Phase: Seal and Protect Once the structure is rebuilt, a binding agent is applied to seal the cuticle and lock in the active ingredients . This protective layer gives the hair a radiant shine and silky feel , while preserving the reconstruction work for longer-lasting results. A Personalized Experience for Every Client The Integrity Repair System is fully customizable based on the level of damage: • Very Damaged Hair • Weak & Damaged Hair • Destructured Hair You can tailor the treatment to the client’s specific needs using balanced active ingredients for a visible, instant improvement — after just one session . The Perfect Take-Home Companion For lasting results, recommend the milk_shake® Integrity Leave-In Treatment . This lightweight, powerful spray nourishes the hair from roots to ends, maintaining salon-quality results between visits. It improves manageability, softness, and shine with every application. Ready to Lead the Repair Revolution? • Offer your clients a professional in-salon reconstruction experience they’ll rave about. • Use milk_shake® Integrity products during consultations to promote home care routines . • Stock retail favorites like the Integrity Shampoo, Conditioner, Intensive Treatment, and Leave-In on your shelves to boost retail sales and reinforce the treatment’s results. Let’s rebuild beauty, one strand at a time. For more information or to order the milk_shake® Integrity Repair System , contact us on 📞 021 552 2369 . - Mike and Liz Hairpieces Celebrates 6 Months in Groenkloof
Celebrating over 50 years of service in the hairpiece industry, Mike and Liz Hairpieces is thrilled to be celebrating our 6-month anniversary in our Groenkloof branch. Established in 1968, this family-run business has built a reputation for providing top-quality wigs, extensions, non-surgical hair replacement solutions, and more. To mark the occasion, we hosted a joyful celebration on 9 May 2025 and what a fabulous day it was! Those who attended absolutely loved it. We had fun fitting wigs, indulging in delicious snack platters, and sending our customers off with cute giveaways and gorgeous new hair. To top it all off, we had our very own Newtrino Specialist on-site, offering free trichoscopies - analysing scalps to help uncover the reasons behind hair thinning. All around, it was a smashing day, filled with fun, confidence boosts, and smiling faces. BOTTOM LEFT: Logan Dashwood (Owner of Mike and Liz), Sarah Brugger (Current Store Manager for the Groenkloof branch), Delia Annandale (Business Development Representative) The Linden branch in Johannesburg has already made a name for itself with its top-notch selection of synthetic and human hair wigs - basically, it’s the Harvard of Hair. And now, the Groenkloof location is aiming to match those fabulous follicles strand-for-strand. Our celebration day was a good start! But it’s not just about the hair - it’s about the heart. We pride ourselves on being your go-to destination for both natural and synthetic hair solutions. The Groenkloof branch and Johannesburg branch will work hand in hand to provide you with the best care and aim to give you quality hair you will love. In addition to a wide selection of products, Mike and Liz Hairpieces also offers personal alterations at their onsite factory in Johannesburg to hairpieces, such as highlights and slight colour adjustments. That means you don’t have to sit in traffic - we’ll do the hooting for you. “We are so excited to expand our family business into Groenkloof,” said Logan, the owner. “Our goal has always been to help people look and feel beautiful, and we can’t wait to welcome our new clients.” We take a holistic approach to hair care, working with beauty professionals and partnering with Nonprofits like “ Look Good Feel Better ” to offer the full package - your one-stop solution for all hair needs. The program is a collaborative initiative led by the Look Good Feel Better Foundation, the charitable division of the Personal Care Products Council, and the Professional Beauty Association, the largest organization of salon professionals. - EOHCB: Bylaws & The Beautiful: Stay Fabulous and Compliant
Let's dive into an essential yet often overlooked aspect of running a successful business—municipal bylaws. These local regulations can significantly impact how you operate your salon or spa. But don't worry, the EOHCB is here to help you navigate these rules and ensure your business stays on the right side of the law. Did you know? In South Africa, each municipality has its own set of bylaws. These are similar to how the industry’s main agreement is divided into sections (A, B, C, and D), each with unique provisions. For example, in the Western Cape, Easter Saturday is still recognised as an industry holiday, while the rest of South Africa considers it a regular working day. This means businesses in the Western Cape enjoy a special holiday, but it also comes with added responsibilities for employers. Let’s take a look at the Overberg area: The municipal health services bylaws here were updated in 2019. Due to the pandemic, enforcement only began recently. If you are operating in this region, you must obtain a health certificate and renew it annually. Failing to do so could result in substantial fines, so it’s important to stay on top of this requirement. What about KwaZulu-Natal? Municipalities like eThekwini have bylaws covering everything from air quality to waste management. Air quality regulations are strictly enforced, so make sure your business isn’t contributing to pollution. Gauteng? In Gauteng, municipalities like Ekurhuleni have comprehensive bylaws governing public health, safety, and environmental management, and they even encourage community involvement in the drafting process. A real-life example In the Eastern Cape, informal traders in Cacadu (formerly Lady Frere) faced serious challenges when the Emalahleni Local Municipality demolished over 40 stalls as part of a plan to revitalize the town’s business district. These traders, including those selling cosmetics, lost their livelihoods during the festive season. This case underscores the importance of staying informed about local bylaws to avoid similar disruptions. Here are some common areas regulated by Municipal Bylaws which could affect Hairdressing, Cosmetology, Beauty, and Skincare Industry businesses: Business Licensing: Most municipalities require businesses to obtain a trading license or business permit. This often involves submitting an application and paying a fee. Health and Hygiene: Bylaws often specify hygiene standards for premises and equipment. Requirements may include proper sterilization of tools, cleanliness of work areas, and personal hygiene of staff. Waste Management: Proper disposal of waste, including hazardous materials like chemicals and sharps. Compliance with recycling regulations. Building Regulations: Compliance with zoning laws for the business location. Adherence to building safety codes, including fire safety measures. Signage: Regulations on the size, placement, and content of business signage. Parking: Provision of adequate parking for customers, if applicable. Noise Control: Limitations on noise levels, especially in residential areas. Water and Sanitation: Proper plumbing and drainage systems. Water conservation measures. Environmental Health: Compliance with air quality standards, especially for businesses using chemicals. Tips for Staying Compliant: Stay informed: Regularly check your local municipality’s website for updates on bylaws. Get certified: Make sure you have all required health and safety certifications. Engage with officials: Build a positive relationship with local municipal officials, as they can offer valuable guidance. Internal inspections: Conduct regular inspections to ensure your business complies with local regulations. Employee training: Train your staff on the importance of compliance and what to monitor. What does this mean for your business? It’s simple—contact your local municipality to understand which bylaws apply to you. Whether you are just starting or have been in business for years, compliance is critical. Municipal officials can conduct inspections at any time, and non-compliance can lead to your business being shut down. No one wants that! By understanding and following local bylaws is crucial for the long-term success of your business. Since each area’s rules differ, staying informed will help you keep your business thriving. Stay compliant and keep your business running smoothly! For any further information or enquiries please contact the EOHCB representative in your area by clicking HERE .
