  • Kao Salon Global Creative Awards 2025: Finalist Focus

With the announcement of our local finalists in the Kao Salon Global Creative Awards, we’re excited to showcase over the next few weeks, a series of stunning colour styles from each of our finalists, and the inspiration behind their finished look. This week we focus on Yvette de Beer from The Hare, and Waliyya Rosenberg  from Beauty on First. Each post will feature two incredible stylists — one from the  Creative Colorist  category and one from the  New Talent Colorist  category — highlighting their standout work side by side. With six posts in total, we’ll be celebrating the talent and creativity of all 12 finalists. Stay tuned for weekly inspiration! CREATIVE COLORIST I entered the Global Creative Awards to push my creative limits and continue evolving as a hair artist. I always strive to create something truly unique—something that hasn’t been done before. For me, it’s all about bringing a vision to life and telling a story through colour. This year, that story was inspired by the bold beauty of South Africa’s national flower – the King Protea. A symbol of strength, resilience, and transformation, the Protea became the foundation for a colour journey that celebrates identity and artistry. Each shade in the look was carefully crafted with meaning: Protea Pink – Making a statement with its strong and vibrant intensity. African Sunset – symbolising strength, energy, and natural beauty. Djembe Shine – Simulating the reflective, silver shine of polished metal on traditional African drums. We are dancing to our own rhythm! I chose Goldwell because their bleach keeps the hair healthy and strong, and their colour range offers endless creative possibilities. I love their styling aids too—they give me the freedom to sculpt and finish every look with precision and artistry. On top of that, I truly value the incredible support and education they provide to help stylists grow and refine their craft. I’m proud to present my vision—and my heritage—on a global stage. Yvette de Beer | The Hare NEW TALENT COLORIST This look began with a moment of inspiration on Instagram a post that caught my eye and sparked an idea with its bold use of color. But it was a shoot with Cardi B that truly lit the creative fire. She wore a structured, futuristic bob, and the moment I saw it, I thought, “this belongs on a competition stage.” The real magic came in the process playing with color placement, building something unique from what was originally a simple image.  I added sharp structure, vibrant transitions, and a small personal twist with the final detail on top. This was my first time entering a competition like this, and truthfully, I wouldn’t have taken that step without my mentor. She helped me see that this journey  this world of high-level color work and artistic risk is not only worth it, it’s joyful. Goldwell gave me the confidence and tools to turn an idea into art. It helped me discover how far I could go with vision, color, and boldness. That’s what this entry represents  not just a hairstyle, but a breakthrough. And that’s why Goldwell is part of my why. Waliyya Rosenberg | Beauty on First Goldwell hair color, Its so easy! Do you want simple, easy, reliable and effective results that are predictable, you can with Goldwell. Contact Twincare International today to book a colour demo. • Style Inspiration: Fluid by Dani Blakeley

With this collection I wanted to explore a strong commercial cutting collection on real people that clients could relate to. I wanted to truly focus on the haircuts and decided to keep all the models the same colour and tone to bring a monochrome effect when tied in with the styling. The vibe of the collection I drew inspiration of from music legend David Bowie. I am inspired by the simplistic art of Geoffry Smart as well as Brutalist architecture that thrived from the 50’s through to the 70’s. I love the sixties and the whole era of the simplistic nature of the fashion with clean lines and strong shapes and structure. Twiggy, Mia Farrow and Mary Quant comes to mind with the inspiration for the hair. • EOHCB: Promoting A Culture of Business and Ethics In The Workplace

In today’s fast-paced business world, cultivating a culture of ethics is essential. By understanding key concepts like culture, ethics, and workplace, companies can create an environment where ethical behaviour flourishes. This article will break down these concepts and link them to practical steps for fostering ethics in the workplace. Understanding Key Concepts Culture:  Culture refers to the collective attitudes, values, goals, and practices that define an institution or organisation. It’s the foundation of a unified and motivated workforce. Think about the atmosphere at your favourite coffee shop or your go-to local business – that’s their culture at play. Ethics:  Ethics encompasses the principles of conduct that direct how individuals or groups behave. It includes moral values and the decisions that guide actions. Ever had an employer/supervisor/manager who led by example? That’s ethics in action. Workplace:  A workplace is any location where tasks, jobs, and projects are carried out for an employer. With the advent of technology, workplaces can be either physical or virtual. Remember when we all suddenly had to adapt to working from home? That’s the workplace evolving. Here are a few simple advisory points recommended to promote ethics in business and improve on workplace ethics: Create a Code: Develop a Code of Practice or Ethical Code that reflects your organisation’s values and cultural norms. This code should guide employee interactions both internally and with clients. Involving employees and customers in the creation of this code ensures that the cultural norms and ethical standards are shared and valued by everyone. Engage with Employees and Customers: Incorporate the perspectives of colleagues and clients when developing and updating ethical policies. This engagement ensures that everyone feels part of the company’s vision and values, fostering a culture of shared ethics. Reinforce the Benefits of the Code: Make sure your ethical code is consistent, practical, and aligned with your business objectives without compromising on integrity. This solidifies the ethical principles within your organisation. Provide training to employees to ensure that ethical standards are upheld across all types of workplaces, whether physical or virtual. Be a Good Role Model: Leaders should demonstrate ethical behaviour, setting the standard for everyone else. Ethical leadership creates an environment of trust and respect. Reflect on a time when a leader in your life made a positive impact by walking the talk. Train Your Employees: Conduct regular training sessions to ensure all employees understand the ethical code and its significance. This ensures ethical standards are consistently applied in daily workplace interactions. Promote Your Ethical Behaviour: Use various channels like marketing materials and social media to showcase your company’s ethical practices. Promoting ethics can enhance your reputation and attract like-minded customers. Reward Ethical Behaviour: Acknowledge and reward employees who display ethical behaviour. Recognising integrity encourages others to follow suit, embedding ethical practices into the workplace culture. Interlinking Concepts Culture and Ethics:  Culture and ethics are deeply intertwined. A positive workplace culture promotes ethical behaviour, and strong ethical principles reinforce a healthy culture. Engaging employees and customers in ethical policy development fosters a culture of shared values and integrity. Workplace and Ethics:  The environment where work is performed, whether physical or virtual, plays a crucial role in implementing ethical standards. Training and promoting ethical behaviour are essential to ensure that these standards are maintained in all types of workplaces. Learning and Improvement Learn from Mistakes: Use any ethical breaches as opportunities to refine policies and practices. A culture of continuous improvement and accountability strengthens overall ethical standards. Report Unethical Behaviour: Provide a simple and confidential way for employees to report unethical behaviour without fear of retaliation. Maintaining an honest culture is crucial for ethical business operations. Move with the Times: Regularly update your ethical policies to reflect changing societal expectations and industry standards. Staying current ensures your workplace remains ethically relevant and inspiring. By comprehending and integrating the concepts of culture, ethics, and workplace, businesses can cultivate a robust ethical environment. This approach not only improves the overall work experience but also builds a trustworthy and respected brand.
