  • Styles: Gravity by Javier Gomar, Spain

"Gravity", Javier Gomar's second collection, is planned entirely on round angles and volumes. When planning that idea, he immediately came to mind the largest and most unreachable that surrounds us, the galaxy. His movements and hairstyles are inspired by the multiple celestial objects: simultaneous rings as if they were a satellite, but also the movements seen in an aurora borealis. Colors refer to those found in the night sky, violets, and blues, combined with the purity of white and silver. And it is impossible to ignore the darkness that is the protagonist in some looks, or that is highlighted with details in others. In this collection, hair floats and levitates, partly defying gravity, but without tricks or deception, thus making it a technical challenge. In addition, the natural movement of the hair is maintained and, in this case, the protagonist is the curly hair that continues to move, though without losing its unnatural position. Rounded contours and shapes predominate to convey the lightness of a suspended volume. He wanted to create hair that levitated, like galactic circles, and also had movement. The volume is enlarged or decreased according to the desired visual search. For this collection, a wearable theme was sought. But also, a personal touch that would challenge hair to connect styling and avant-garde in a fine line, since the pieces of hair are complete, without additions. Technically it is a step up from the previous collection, "Uprising". It is also more realistic and easier to wear, though with that unique touch of textures and color that make this work a creative mix that moves between the avant-garde and the commercial. A successful combination of colors, natural light, and cutting techniques from a masterful collection. "Gravity" tries to leave us the mind relaxed, as much as when we contemplate the sky at night. This collection has been a personal challenge in which he has enjoyed throughout the entire process. The goal was to create a new vision of hairdressing. Also, an attempt to open it up and connect it to other disciplines and spaces such as art and fashion galleries. • Kao Products Designated for Space Missions

Two products specially designed by Kao, the manufacturers of Goldwell, KMS and Oribe among other top brands – will soon be flying into space where they will drastically improve lives, bringing comfort and improved hygiene to the occupants of the International Space Station! The Space Laundry Sheet is designed to remove dirt, stains and odours from clothing, and the 3D Space Shampoo Sheet is for cleansing the scalp and hair from dirt and sebum without using water. These two products were specially innovated by Kao to make life in space easier, greener and more pleasant. They have been selected for use at the International Space Station, and will be used on board in 2022. Exciting as it is to have these products flying into space, it is also important to realise how relevant these innovations are for our own planet, where water and resources are limited and need to be conserved. In the International Space Station, water can’t be used for washing clothes and astronauts have to wear the same clothes every day. It is also extremely important that no shampoo droplets circulate within the air in the space station. For this reason, waterless laundry and shampoo will be a game-changer in space – and for any situation where water can’t be used. Kao aims to develop technologies that provide answers to the challenges we face on Earth, as well as helping science progress forward in space. The expertise that was gained in developing these products to make life better and easier in space, will be very useful on earth in times of disaster, for people who are hospitalised, and in regions with water shortages. Here’s more on these innovative products: Space Laundry Sheet The non-woven fabric sheets are impregnated with cleaning ingredient for use on clothing. Simply wiping clothing with the sheets without using water makes it possible to remove dirty stains and unpleasant odors. The sheets provide cleaning power equivalent to washing clothes in a washing machine with detergent. In addition, the sheets' antimicrobial and deodorizing ingredients keep clothing in a pleasant state. 3D Space Shampoo Sheet The non-woven fabric sheets have an uneven, three‐dimensional shape and come impregnated with cleanser for use on hair. The raised bumps on the 3D sheet wipe away dirt and sebum from the scalp and roots of the hair while massaging the head. The sheets do not need to be used with water, so astronauts can wash their hair without worrying about drops of liquid flying around in the weightless conditions of space. The sheets come with a refreshing, clean scent to provide an invigorating feel when washing hair. Do you want to stock products in your salon, manufactured by a company that is on the cutting edge of technology and innovation, both on earth and in space? • EOHCB: Employment Equity in the Workplace

Please note that amendments to the Employment Equity Act will come into effect as of 2022. These amendments will be communicated to employers within the Hairdressing, Cosmetology, Skincare, and Beauty Industry. South Africa has a legacy of discrimination in relation to race, gender and disability that has resulted in the denial of access to opportunities for education, employment, promotion and wealth creation for the majority of South Africans. The Employment Equity Act (the EEA) was promulgated to address this legacy and has two main objectives, namely — • to ensure that South African workplaces are free of discrimination (this applies to all workplaces); and • to ensure that affirmative action measures are implemented so that suitably qualified people from designated groups have equal employment opportunities and are equitably represented in all occupational levels in the workforce of a designated employer (generally, this refers to employers employing more than 50 employees, employers with a turnover in excess of a specified amount, municipalities or an organ of state). South Africa is a country founded on constitutional values of human dignity, equality, human rights and freedoms. The EEA gives effect to the Constitution and it prohibits ‘unfair discrimination’ on a number of listed grounds including, but not limited to race, sex, belief and disability. A claim of unfair discrimination may also be based on “any other arbitrary ground”. In this instance, whether or not there is discrimination will depend on whether, objectively, the ground (arbitrary ground) is based on attributes and characteristics (things that a person cannot easily change, e.g. weight or height) which have the potential to impair the fundamental human dignity of the person(s) concerned. Employment equity is a key factor in achieving sound human resource practices. This includes eliminating the historical barriers that prevented the advancement of designated groups (Black people, including African, Coloured and Indian people, women and people with disabilities) and applying positive affirmative action measures. In terms of the Constitution and the EEA, it is not unfair discrimination to take affirmative action measures consistent with the purpose of the EEA (or to distinguish, exclude or prefer any person on the basis of an inherent requirement of a job). For a measure to be justified as a valid “affirmative action measure”, it must target categories of persons disadvantaged by unfair discrimination, be designed to protect them, should promote the achievement of equality and be rationally implemented and set out in an employment equity plan. The CCMA has jurisdiction to conciliate all unfair discrimination disputes provided for within the EEA. The employee must refer the matter to the CCMA within six months after the act or omission that allegedly constitutes unfair discrimination. In terms of the EEA, once an unfair discrimination dispute remains unresolved at conciliation, an applicant may take the matter further as follows: Unfair discrimination based on grounds of sexual harassment: An applicant, irrespective of earnings, may refer the unresolved dispute to either the CCMA for arbitration or to the Labour Court for adjudication. Unfair discrimination based on grounds other than sexual harassment, (this also includes equal pay for work of equal value disputes): An applicant who earns below the Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA) threshold (as of 01 March 2021, this amount is R211 596.30 per annum) may refer the unresolved dispute to either the CCMA for arbitration or to the Labour Court for adjudication. An applicant who earns equal to or above the BCEA threshold may refer the unresolved disputes to the Labour Court or by written agreement, to the CCMA for arbitration. Commissioners have the power to make any appropriate arbitration award that gives effect to the EEA, including an award ordering payment of compensation, payment of damages or an order directing the employer to take steps to prevent the same unfair discrimination or a similar practice occurring in the future in respect of other employees. The Commission for Employment Equity is responsible for advising the Minister of Employment and Labour on the implementation of the EEA and monitoring and ensuring compliance. Designated employers, for example those that employ 50 or more employees, municipalities, most public service departments and employers bound by collective agreements, are required to submit an Employment Equity Plan to the Commission for Employment Equity. The plan should identify barriers to equity in the workplace and set targets for the achievement of employment equity. The designated employers are required to consult with unions and employees to ensure that the plan is accepted by everyone; review all employment policies, practices and procedures that may act as a barrier to designated groups; prepare a profile of their workforce in order to identify any problems relating to employment equity; and prepare and implement an employment equity plan setting out the affirmative action measures they intend taking to achieve their employment equity goals. They must also display a summary of the provisions of the Act in all languages relevant to the workforce. During 2014, new Regulations were made relating to work of equal value, the duties of a designated employer and enforcement mechanisms. The Minister has also issued various Codes of Good Practice to assist employers in developing their plans. These codes may be found on the Department of Employment and Labour website. EOHCB Contact Details Web: www.eohcb.co.za Facebook: www.facebook.com/eohcb Instagram: www.instagram.com/eohcbsa/ Twitter: twitter.com/eohcbsa

  • Very Peri, the Pantone Color of 2022 for a Year Full of Inspiration

As every year, Pantone Color Institute has chosen a color that sets the mood and attitude to follow during the next 12 months. Very Peri is a combination of sky blue and lavender, also called periwinkle or lavender blue. According to the Pantone Institute, with this election they want us to face the future with more optimism and with some restraint. Color in life as in hairdressing is vibrancy and is never an innocent choice. Since ancient times we know about the importance and influence of colors on our mind as well as our emotions, and from that knowledge chromotherapy was born. For centuries, colors have had a strong symbolic meaning that varies in different cultures. Very Peri is created from the fusion of two tones, sky blue and lavender. Two pastels provide their meaning. Blue is calming, it gives us peace, and that is why it helps us fall asleep. Violet has a strong spiritual meaning, as it signifies transformation. Therefore, this new color incorporates these values, but they are projected in a new way. This tone invites us to modify our attitude with joy and optimism, but also with awareness and meditation on our future and what we do with our life. It is about assuming the uncertainty, that not everything is under our control, although without discouraging us. We are going to find the Very Peri in many details that surround our lives. From clothing, accessories, furniture, hair accessories, and the hair itself. We are going to integrate this color and all the emotions that it arouses in us to let ourselves be full by them. A whole declaration of intentions that is clearly reflected when we make it visible in our day-to-day, by wearing it. With hair, we express our identity, what we resonate with and what reflects us. So this color is also a new coloring trend that can be incorporated in different ways. Very Peri is a tone to wear soundly, but also with highlights or selected locks. With bitonal styles, chunky highlights or melting with a brown or platinum base is a great option.

  • National Bargaining Council: 2022 Fees, Exemption Applications and Updated Details

Reminder: EOHCB Membership Fees 2022 The EOHCB Membership Fees will increase with effect from 1 January 2022. The Fees for 2022 were circulated with the previous Chronicle and may be accessed via the Council’s website. For those of you receiving your Returns and the Chronicle via email, you can click on this link http://hcsbc.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Annexure-C-Jan-2022.pdf Exemptions – How to Apply The exemptions administration section has observed certain trends, including non-adherence to some of the requirements, in the applications being submitted for exemption from membership of the HBSI Pension Fund. In particular, we draw your attention to the following aspects: When applying for exemption for multiple employees, only one application form needs to be completed. For Pension Fund exemption applications, Pages 12 to 14 of the Exemption Application Form (BROKER/INTERMEDIARY FORM ) must be completed – No other documents will be accepted as sufficient. If not properly completed, this will result in a less favourable outcome. The alternative Fund’s current, official membership list/schedule in respect of the employees of the establishment making the application, must be included. An individual letter from each employee – as per the example given at the bottom of page 15 of the Exemption Application Form, must be provided. Exemptions are valid for only one calendar year. Each year, an application for exemption must be submitted for all employees. If an exemption is granted for a given year and a new employee joins thereafter, during that year, the original exemption application, together with the employee’s letter and an updated membership schedule showing that the new employee is on the alternative Fund, should be submitted. Exemptions will only be granted in cases where the alternative pension funds are equal or better than the HBSI Fund. The Applicant must be compliant, this includes ensuring that the Applicant’s account is up to date and that all employees are registered with the Council. Exemptions for the 2022 calendar year will be heard until the 28 February 2022, and if no 2022 application is received within the period up to that date, pension invoices will be raised as from March 2022. It is therefore important to apply as soon as possible. Council Offices: Contact Numbers The Council has offices in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, and Durban. • Fear of Needles – Common Side effects to Covid-19 Vaccination

Making an Informed Decision about Vaccination – What you need to know A Vaccinated Industry is a Safe, Sustainable and Successful Industry In the latest Covid-19 news worldwide, Omicron is many times more contagious than Delta. One infected person has the ability to infect up to 10 people. Whether it is “less severe” is not known yet, we just don’t have the data yet over time. If the sheer numbers of cases go up, the numbers of hospitalisations, severe, long-term illnesses, and possible deaths are going to go up as well. Vaccination is a critical tool in controlling this spread, plus the development and spread of possibly much more serious variants in the population. Past and current information shows the benefits of COVID-19 vaccination outweigh the known and potential risks. Here are the Latest numbers of patients hospitalized due to COVID-19 in the US Sanford Health Care system, on Dec 14 2021. Vaccination as a matter of business practice - A major business consideration to be confronted is loss of business to other salons who have sought an extra edge, with the drive towards vaccinated service providers and companies advertising their vaccination status. Leaving it up to the consumer to decide where to go may affect your bottom line as an unvaccinated salon. How can we make ourselves and each other feel safe? We all fear making a decision to have the vaccine and risk suffering an adverse reaction to the vaccine. One thing we can do is look at the possibility of any adverse reactions. Common Side Effects On the arm where you got the shot: Pain Redness Swelling Throughout the rest of your body: Tiredness Headache Muscle pain Chills Fever Nausea After a Second Shot Side effects after the second shot may be more intense than the ones experienced after the first shot. These side effects are normal signs that the body is building protection and should go away within a few days.
