- Style Inspiration: Celestial by Ann Marie Young
Celestial features six powerful, otherworldly queens. I envisage each of them as superhuman, divine galactic rulers. The contrasting colours and layering textures of space and planets have inspired me: from fiery golds, reds and oranges through to deep greens, blues and silvery hues. I have interwoven the striking shades and quiet movement of the Aurora Borealis and Australis throughout the collection with a dreamy blend of blues, greens and purples. The looks channel otherworldliness, mystery, power and beauty. - Depot® The Male Tools & Co: Celebrating the Heroes of Barbering - Dario J. Braun
With BARBERS’ STORIES we want to celebrate our heroes . Men who are visionaries, artists, barbers who have revolutionised an ancient craft. A small European tour, north to south, meeting them on the way so that we can tell you their stories. The journey begins. HAARLEM Holland Haarlem is the quintessence of the Dutch city, located in the heart of the Dutch countryside: cobblestone streets, ancient canals, historic buildings, great churches, cosy cafes, craft breweries, hidden courtyards. A world apart from the capital, where the aristocratic grandeur and Enlightenment heritage remain untouched, with its enthusiasm for knowledge. But Haarlem also owns a "pop" side. Considered the best shopping destination in the Netherlands, it blends major brands and concept stores, independent labels, old-school and truly special barbershops, all waiting to be explored. [BARBER] Dario J. Braun @ DARIOSBARBERS.NL Dario J. Braun is young, but he already has a wealth of experience under his belt, having started his career as a hairdresser at the age of 18 and having a clear vision of the magnitude of his dream from the very beginning: to do things on a grand scale. Dario's barbershop is not only the largest in the city, but also one of the first in Haarlem, opened in 2015, following specialised barber training, achieved when the phenomenon of cosmetics and services dedicated to men was still emerging. Now, Dario, along with his team, has created a place that exudes creativity from every corner, without ever compromising on the extremely high quality of service. We met him to listen to his story. - Tips for Creating Perfect Halloween Reds with Lloyd Court
It’s Halloween season – the perfect time for reds! According to Lloyd Court from seanhanna salons in Wimbledon, reds and Halloween will always be intertwined. “Red is associated with Halloween because it symbolises danger and fear,” he explains. “Orange, particularly, is perfect at this time of year as it’s the colour of pumpkins – even though the traditional Jack-O-Lanterns in the 17 th century were turnips. “This is a wonderful time to introduce coppers and reds to clients; soft tones that can be dialled up or dialled down depending on what your client wants. Lloyd offers his top tips for getting the perfect Halloween red 1 When working on an all-over red look, mix a few shades together to soften or strengthen each tone to make it a natural-looking copper tone. 2 Reds and coppers look really elevated when utilised in panels, so don’t just think about putting on an all over colour. Use two-three shades in different sections to achieve a really beautiful multi-tonal result. 3 When using copper shades, it’s important to utilise booster shades – you can dial up or dial down your shades however you want. For the long red hair I paid particular attention to adding depth at the root, so I added more base. Then working through the lengths, I wanted one copper to have more vibrancy so added more booster and then with the second formulation I wanted it to be lighter, so I chose a shade lighter without booster to add contrast. 4 For a pumpkin orange colour, it’s important with formulation to mix lots of different shades together to create a really seamless look, especially when blending on buzzed hair. For this look, I started with one shade and then added more pigment to the same bowl as I went through the hair. This allows for creative control and allows you to adapt the shade as you move through the technique.

- EOHCB: The Benefits of A Bargaining Council For Employers In The South African Hairdressing, Cosmetology and Beauty Industry
In South Africa, Bargaining Councils play a crucial role in regulating labour relations within various industries. These councils, established under the Labour Relations Act, facilitate collective bargaining between employers and employees, ensuring fair and standardized working conditions. While much attention is given to the benefits for employees, employers in the hairdressing and beauty industry also gain significant advantages from a Bargaining Council. Below are the key reasons why a Bargaining Council is beneficial to employers in this sector. 1. Stability and Predictability in Labour Costs A Bargaining Council helps establish standardised wages and working conditions across the industry, reducing uncertainty and competition based on unfair labour costs. Employers can plan their business expenses more effectively, knowing that labour costs are regulated and consistent across the sector. 2. Efficient Dispute Resolution Labour disputes can be costly and disruptive to businesses. A Bargaining Council provides a structured and legally recognised mechanism for resolving disputes between employers and employees. This minimises the risk of lengthy and expensive legal battles, ensuring that workplace conflicts are handled efficiently and fairly. 3. Reduction in Industrial Action By promoting structured negotiations between employers and employees through EOHCB and Uasa the union, a Bargaining Council helps prevent unnecessary strikes and industrial action. This ensures that businesses can operate without frequent disruptions, maintaining steady income streams and customer trust. 4. Access to a Skilled Workforce EOHCB and UASA The Union form part of the Service SETA chamber for training and skills development programs for employees in the industry. For employers, this means access to a well-trained workforce that can deliver high-quality services. With industry-specific training initiatives in place, businesses benefit from improved employee productivity and professionalism. 5. Level Playing Field for Businesses A regulated labour market ensures that all businesses within the hairdressing and beauty sector comply with the same labour laws and wage structures. This prevents unfair competition from businesses that might otherwise exploit workers by offering lower wages and poor working conditions. Employers who follow fair labour practices are no longer at a disadvantage. 6. Administrative Support and Compliance Assistance Bargaining Councils provide employers through the EOHCB, with guidance on labour laws, contracts, and workplace regulations. This helps businesses stay compliant with national labour legislation, reducing the risk of legal disputes and penalties. Councils also assist with administrative processes such as employee benefit schemes, easing the burden on business owners. 7. Improved Employer-Employee Relations Having a formalised system for negotiations and conflict resolution fosters better communication between employers and employees. When workers feel their rights are protected and grievances are addressed through the Bargaining Council, workplace morale improves, leading to a more motivated and productive workforce. 8. Collective Representation in Industry Matters Through EOHCB, employers have a collective voice in shaping industry policies and regulations. This ensures that business owners' concerns and interests are represented when labour laws or sector-specific regulations are discussed at a government level. The Bargaining Council then enforce the agreed conditions and industry policies and regulations. For employers in the South African hairdressing and beauty industry, a Bargaining Council provides significant advantages, including financial predictability, streamlined dispute resolution, and access to a well-trained workforce. By ensuring fair competition, offering administrative support, and fostering industry-wide stability, councils help businesses operate more efficiently and sustainably. Strengthening and participating in Bargaining Councils remains a key strategy for employers seeking to grow and thrive in the sector.
