Cash is transferred into our account at the end of each month without fail. 8. Dirk has assisted and advised me on how to promote and market to improve my sales. Would I recommend Salon Products? • May Hairoscopes

Astrologist Zema predicts your stars for May. For a full personalised reading, you can contact her on 083 430 1456. TAURUS 20 APRIL – 20 MAY There’s something you need to do to make it right with something that has come between you and a family member. Think carefully about the way to do it and then get on with it before you change your mind. You will be pleased and surprised at how it works out for you. If you’re looking for Romance, don’t rush into anything without giving it a bit of thought to make sure that you’re on the right road. Hide weapons!! GEMINI 21 MAY - 20 JUNE If you’ve come up with a good idea to attract your Heart’s Desire, good idea! But of course with your famous trick of seeing two sides to every story, it could get out of hand. You need a close friend who can give you advice, and you can’t keep dragging it out. You also appear to have a very nice job idea, but again, take time to plan properly. Your incredible gift of seeing yes and no at the same time drives the Universe crazy … CANCER 21 JUNE - 21 JULY Have you come up with that idea that could improve many paths for your family yet? Not just marriage and children, but also the people who got you there … You are usually a Bright Idea Person (which usually drives people insane…) but you are going to surprise even yourself and you are going to wonder what took you so long! A wonderful gift that Cancers have is that they usually listen, which is a miracle! So do it. Now. LEO 22 JULY - 22 AUG There’s something you have dreamed of doing all your life but never got to it. Maybe now would be good, but find someone who can help you. You will not regret it and neither will The Loved One! You have the Heart to do anything that you consider but -um- the attitude needs some attention. DON’T leave it too long and get sick of it before you’ve even started … Don’t chase the Loved One down the path of insanity either. VIRGO 23 AUG – 22 SEP If someone comes to you for help with something, use your Perfection Brain (the one that drives the entire world insane) and find a solution to this person’s goal. The trick is not to go on and on and drive this person away. Get to it without a thousand details. If you have a partner, now would also be a time to practice a bit of calmness. Breathe. You do have a Fun Gift for something that you’re not using. Er - maybe NOW? Think! LIBRA 23 SEPT – OCT 22 There’s something you want to do and have wanted to do for a very long time. The Universe is rolling its eyes and saying “Heard this before…. x 100”. Whether it’s something that you need to do or want to do, now would be good. Lib, you have a gift for getting on well with people and they love it, so how about you use this a bit more on the Loved One?? You could be SUCH a Hero/Heroine if you think before you talk. Please. SCOPIO 23 OCT – 21 NOV Time to get your temper down a bit, Scorp! There are about a million paths ahead of you which of course take about a million decisions. PICK ONE! Surprise the world and the Universe! The secret is to keep your infamous temper, as you are capable of so many things and that’s how every now and again you get a bit um… difficult. Lovelife looks good which is the good news and so keep your eyes open for this GIFT… SAGITTARIUS 22 NOV – 21 DEC Sag! One of the busiest years you’ve had for a long time! Everything seems to jog along at a bit of a speed - keep up or you might miss opportunities. You don’t need regrets for things you’ve missed… (Run everybody! Run!) Even Lovelife seems to speed up a bit, so apply the Brain(?) and do your best. This does NOT mean try and take over the World in one go - not advisable if you want to keep friends and family. CAPRICORN 21 DEC – JAN 20 Done anything with your spiritualism yet? If you have, please get on with it because if you start getting sick of it you are going to miss the greatest gift that anybody could possibly have. You will suddenly become a spiritual gift to people, as long as you can keep your temper. AQUARIUS 20 JAN – 18 FEB You always impress people like mad with the way you look, so now might be a good time to do a re-do - hair, clothes, attitude, whatever. You’ll be taken by surprise at the attention you get from the opposite sex, which will also encourage you to move along with what you really want to do considering work as well. You can’t do better than this, can you Aqua? Then again, nothing is ever enough for you, so just KEEP GOING! PISCES 19 FEB – 20 MARCH You appear to be very good with money when you feel like it, so the Stars have this idea - BE VERY GOOD AT IT! You really can make wonderful things happen if you apply yourself without losing your patience (which doesn’t always work because you can always see both sides of the story) but give it a good go. Most people adore you but this usually because they haven’t witnessed your temper. Control it!! ARIES 21 MARCH – 19 APRIL Patience with a capital P is something you have to practice like mad if you want to get what you want. And you WILL get it, but it takes a whole LOT of the infamous Patience. You have wonderful ideas, but you need someone to stand by you on this path. You’re about to come up with something that is going to make people gasp, but do try and keep a lot of this to yourself as not everybody is going to agree…

  • Best Ever Tip for Generating Revenue During Lockdown

Mark Timms from Mark Adrian Hairdressing shared the tip that has been the single most helpful strategy for him during lockdown. He has requested that we share it with the industry for everyone’s benefit: Time for every one of you to see money flowing into your accounts again. Yesterday we made a list of what I call our inner circle of clients. For now we picked 80. Justine phoned six clients and had a great banter. She enquired as to if they would like pay in for their next service now to help us during the crisis. Of the six, five were more than happy to help. The total raised from just five clients was R7,300.00! Admittedly one paid R4500.00. It's all about personal contact and caring. I shared this concept with another hairdressing friend who's response was, "I've already messaged my clients and very few responses." Well that's because it's so impersonal. Pick up the phone NOW. This is your time to shine. No doom and gloom. I don't care whether you are a one person salon in a one horse town, pick up the phone and connect. I placed what I thought would be a successful add for vouchers on our Mark Adrian Facebook site. Two people responded. Why? It's too impersonal and didn't feel right. If calling clients for a chat helps you I will be so happy. Love and light to you. Mark Timms

  • Relief for Businesses Available Through Banks: COVID-19 Loan Scheme and South African Future Trust F

This was received from FNB for their business banking clients, and Hairnews is passing it on, hoping it will assist the industry as this funding is available through all banks. Covid-19 Loan Scheme: Available from All Banks Backed by National Treasury support, FNB is administering the COVID-19 Loan Scheme for SMEs to help businesses across the country that are unable to pay for specific operational expenses due to COVID-19 and the national lockdown. The COVID-19 Loan Scheme is a 66-month loan which is available to businesses with an annual turnover of less than R300 million and meet the requirements set out by government. Each business is eligible for one COVID-19 Loan Scheme across all financial institutions and must apply for the loan with their main bank. It is designed to help businesses across the country who may not be able to meet their financial obligations during lockdown, thus ensuring their resilience for when the economy reopens. • EOHCB Updates the Industry on Pleas for Salons to Reopen

Dear EOHCB Members, The EOHCB requested Minister Dlamini-Zuma to provide reasons for rejecting our submission/request that the sector included on Level 4. We are preparing another Sectoral submission in accordance with the published regulations for submission later this week. The EOHCB will provide a guide to members on the steps that should be followed and prepared between now and when we are allowed to re-start. The EOHCB is considering legal action as one of the alternatives that are available should constructive engagement with the government become futile. We are aware of establishments that are operating contrary to the Regulations and without the necessary permits. We are aware that enforcement of the regulations are not being done to the same degree across country. We are also aware of establishments that were closed down and are now facing the legal ramifications of their decision to operate unlawfully. We urge members to remain within the law. • Social Media Tips for Salons in Stage 4

Stage 4 is definitely the worst stage for us to be in! It seems as if lockdown has lasted forever, everyone is hurting and frustrated, and there seems to be no end in sight. Take heart, stay strong, keep lobbying and emailing government and industry organisations to include hairdressing in the next stage. Remember that the precautions are in place to ensure that we do not experience a crippling flare-up of this virus, that will cause widespread casualties along with a prolonged, forced closure of the economy (as Italy has experienced). Stage 4 will not last long and it is part of the gradual easing of restrictions that has been carefully and scientifically implemented by a world renowned team. Also remember that you can start again, rebuild your business, take on a new challenge, get a new job, get back on your feet – if you are alive. You cannot do so if you are dead. The aim of the steady relaxation of lockdown is to give every person the best chance of surviving this virus by ensuring that there are enough medical resources to treat every person who becomes sick enough to need hospital care. Here are a few social media tips to get you through this stage: 1. Engage, engage, engage with clients. Now, more than ever, is the time to communicate and the right communication can grow your following and increase your reach. 2. Do think out of the box, create solutions for your clients, create ways for them to engage with you and do business with you that are in line with lockdown regulations and your professional ethics. 3. Survey your clients, ask what they need now, and ask what they will need when it is time to open up again. This way you will be perfectly placed to maximise your revenue on the very first day back at work. 4. Your clientele look up to you as a person, and place, where empathy and care is shown. Be that living example for your community. Try your best to stay calm, stay hopeful, don’t have meltdowns in public. (Of course, you may have them in private.) Give your clients some hope, some fun, some joy in the difficult time we are all experiencing. Try your best to keep your sense of humour! 5. Do share your fears and concerns if they are valid and you need help, but don’t make every post about them. People are overloaded with negativity at this stage. They will be drawn to those who can show leadership and a positive way forward. 6. Don’t embrace fringe theories, don’t try to argue against scientific facts, don’t blame anybody for lockdown and its stages. The only “person” to blame is the virus, the country’s scientific panel is providing and the best way to fight this, is through your behaviour. 7. Remember that lockdown seems like an eternity to you now, while we are all living through it, but a year from now it will seem to have passed in a flash. As we are living through unprecedented times, we have to be kind to ourselves during lockdown in terms of work, but even so, you should do what you can as far as your time and energy allow. 8. Try to do one small thing each day that is positive or constructive for your online presence and your business. You might also enjoy...
