  • UIF Update: Employees can get Paid Directly

There has been an update to the Covid-19 TERS UIF process. Employees whose employer claims for UIF through the TERS scheme, can now get paid directly into their bank accounts, rather than into their employer’s account. This means that employees will have quicker access to their relief money as they do not have to wait for their employer to transfer the funds. Employees who want to know if their employer has been paid out the UIF can check up using this LINK You might also enjoy... • EOHCB Response to Covid-19 Lockdown and Social Media Allegations

EOHCB POSITION ON COVID-19 LOCKDOWN AND RESPONSE TO FACEBOOK AND SOCIAL MEDIA ALLEGATIONS 15 May 2020 The purpose of this communication is to advise on EOHCB`s position in these challenging times and to respond to the allegations made in social media and on Facebook, in relation to EOHCB’s approach to the urgent High Court application that has been launched in the High Court, in Cape Town. From the outset, it should be stated that it is not the EOHCB’s intention to become involved in any mudslinging. The EOHCB is obliged to act in the best interest of the Hairdressing, Cosmetology, Beauty and Skincare Industry (“the Industry”). To fulfil this obligation, the EOHCB must act in sensible and rational manner. The EOHCB`s conduct, as Employer Organisation, is governed by provisions of the Labour Relations Act. It is the only Employers Organisation party to the National Bargaining Council for the Industry and as such must also take into account the needs of employees in the Industry, as represented by UASA – the Union, being the Trade Union party to the National Bargaining Council, prior to embarking on a process that may affect the Industry. The EOHCB, through Business Unity South Africa (BUSA), engaged with Government and furnished Government with a substantive written submission as to why personal care services, rendered in the Industry, should form part of the so-called permitted services allowed for during alert level 4. Notwithstanding the submission, Government did not include personal services and the EOHCB is in the process of calling for reasons why personal care services were not included to enable the EOHCB to address any concerns that Government may have had, causing the exclusion. Advocate Carlo Viljoen (“Viljoen”) approached the EOHCB with a request to join in the urgent application. Upon having had the opportunity to read Viljoen’s draft application, the EOHCB resolved not to support the application for, amongst others, the following reasons: • the application is limited to hairdressers only. Neither supporting staff in salons such as operators, cleaners, front desk co-ordinators etc. nor any employers and employees rendering beauty and skincare services are included; • the EOHCB is of the opinion that more ground may be gained through meaningful negotiations directly with Government, as opposed to become embroiled in a legal battle. All other remedies should be exhausted prior to an application being launched. An application should be a last resort; and • the application contains certain statements which, according to the EOHCB, are not factually correct. For the reasons aforesaid, the EOHCB advised Viljoen that it cannot support the application and, should it be necessary, the EOHCB will make a submission to Court as a so-called friend of the Court, thereby not opposing the application, but simply furnishing the Court with the correct information. The EOHCB requested Viljoen not to incorporate any information in the application that may be interpreted as if the application is supported by the EOHCB as this may adversely affect the EOHCB’s endeavours in achieving common ground with Government, going forward. In fact, the EOHCB is in the process of preparing further submissions to Government to the benefit of the entire Industry, incorporating the full sphere of personal care services, which will be to the benefit of all employers and with support of UASA – The Union, for and on behalf of employees in the Industry. Employers in the Industry are more than welcome to communicate directly with the EOHCB in order to familiarise themselves with the processes executed by the EOHCB to date in order to expedite personal care services being included in permitted services to be rendered and the manner in which members contributions are utilised for this purposes. • Introducing the Yellow Ribbon Challenge from David Robbins

David Robbins, owner of Killroutine Styling, has come up with a fabulous idea to help salons, as well as their employees and assistants and the less fortunate, during lockdown. Here is David in a video, explaining his experience of lockdown and what this challenge involves. The Yellow Ribbon Challenge works as follows: • You source prizes from your clients that they are happy to donate, based on their skills. • You raffle these prizes among your clients and friends, for a lucky draw with a prize that can be claimed during lockdown (if it is a product) or after lockdown (if it is a service). • Decide on the ticket sale amount to suit your clientele as well as the prize. • Publicize this widely! • Then, when the raffle is done, you keep a percentage of the proceeds (as you need to survive) and the other percentage goes to those less fortunate – either your support staff and assistants who are battling, or others in your neighbourhood who are in need, either as cash, or shopping vouchers. David has had great results with this so far! In the video he explains more about the challenge and also sets out how suppliers could take part in their own Yellow Ribbon Challenge, helping out salons. Why Yellow Ribbon? During lockdown, a yellow ribbon placed on your door or outside your house indicates that you are in need of help and are struggling financially or to provide for yourself. We love this idea which is a win-win for everyone concerned, and a great way for salons to sustain themselves and help the needy during lockdown! • Throwback to the Top 3 Wella Professionals Looks from AFI Cape Town Fashion Week 2020

The lockdown lull has undoubtedly set in, and we need inspiration. That's why we compiled a throwback to our favourite looks from AFI Cape Town Fashion Week which took place in March 2020. We spent two days indulging in all Cape Town Fashion Week had to offer. Mesmerised by the designs, rubbing shoulders with the whose-who of the fashion industry, and seeing our stylists create magnificent hairstyles. The African Fashion International (AFI) runway once again saw fashion vision and gorgeous hair trotting down the runway. It's noteworthy that the last show was cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak and streamed online - à la social distancing. A feature of Fashion Week that may become the norm according to Sihle Majola, eCommerce Manager at AFI during the AFI Conversations Livestream early in May. AFI encourages and works toward sustainability in fashion, illuminating the rich cultural heritage the Continent has to offer and connecting and moving Africa forward through technology. Unsurprisingly, the collective idea of creating a more sustainable fashion industry is reflected in- or hinted at in each runway collection. Lead by Mariska Treurnicht and Minette Geyer, the Wella Professionals stylist team created marvellous hairstyles that we cannot wait to share! Recreate Runway Hair from AFI Fashion Week 1. The Alien – Gavin Rajah Models walked down the runway with images of landfills filled with fashion waste flashing behind them. Gavin Rajah made a bold statement about the impact of the fashion industry: both on the environment and people. Challenged to use waste to create his vision, this show served to beg the question, do we need more in a time of disease, waste, fear, violence, and hate? Both makeup and hair reflected this notion of a post-apocalyptic world. Recreate the Alien Step 1: Section hair from ear to ear at the back of the head and tie a ponytail Step 2: Use EIMI Dry ME to create volume Step 3: Backcomb or tease the loose hair – make it big! Step 4: Comb the top layer of the hair to smooth it out so that the back coming underneath creates a base Step 5: Take all the hair, brush it back, and shape it on the side Step 6: Clip it close to the ponytail Step 7: Take hair and roll it in and make a big loop with the hair Step 8: Pin and secure the loop underneath. Make sure to lift out some height in the front to create a bubble Wella Professionals for Gavin Rajah – 'Alien' 2020 EIMI products for the Alien • EIMI Mistify Me Strong is a hairspray with a level 3 hold that is fast drying and provides a 24-hour hold. • EIMI Glam Mist a beautiful shimmering finishing spray. • EIMI Dry Me a dry shampoo/ styling product that refreshes hair and creates volume. 2. Forward-Twist Pony – Leigh Schubert Leigh Schubert designs and manufactures locally, making this brand exclusively and ethically proudly South African. The ready-to-wear womenswear line is known for its sophisticated yet quirky signature style, subtly pulling from the designer's South African heritage. The pieces feature bright colours and bold prints that subtly draw from the designer's South African culture while still being both contemporary and universal. Recreate the Forward-Twist Pony Step 1: Tie hair in a ponytail Step 2: Use EIMI Dry Me to create texture in the pony Step 3: Flip pony upside down and back comb with your fingers to create a messy look Step 4: Lift head and grab the hair in a bunch, twist it around, and secure on the top of the head with hair pins Step 5: When you're happy with the placement, start pulling some of the hair out a little bit to create even more texture Step 6: Pin the ends of the ponytail so that it doesn't stick out Step 7: Then pin loops and rolls to complete the look Forward Twist Pony by Wella Professionals EIMI products for the Forward-Pony • EIMI Thermal Image a heat protectant spray that moisturises and protects hair during heat styling. • EIMI Mistify Me Strong is a hairspray with a level 3 hold that is fast drying and provides a 24-hour hold. • EIMI Glam Mist a beautiful shimmering finishing spray. 3. Recreate the Natural Fro Step 1: Use EIMI Thermal Image during to prep hair Step 2: Then curl some sections, twist some and flatiron the twist. Leave some sections natural. Wella Professionals & AFI Fashion Week Partnership Wella Professionals and African Fashion International (AFI) decision to join forces is a natural progression of two beauty and fashion powerhouses: one, the platform for showcasing and developing Africa's best design and fashion talent, and the other the continental leader in hair craft. The partnership has seen a collaboration between hair and fashion industries. The collaboration between AFI and Wella Professionals allows for the best of fashion, design and art to fuse with the best in hair styling. The official hairstyling line for AFI Fashion Week is EIMI which has long been part of the global Fashion Week backstage. EIMI encompasses creativity and artistic vision: it allows stylists to interpret global trends or set new accents of style and individuality.
