  • Breezewood E-Commerce Salon Partnership Launches

Run Your Salon’s Online Shop through Breezewood. L’Oréal Professional retail brands delivered straight to your clients – no monthly costs to you, just ongoing money in the bank for you, and a superb, user friendly platform for your clients! Based in the mother city, for the past 12 years we have serviced the professional hair industry with the world’s best haircare brands with efficient, simplified service. We provide business consultants, technical in salon and studio education and next day delivery service. We remain grateful to our clients for partnering with us and growing with us, and for the strong bonds we have developed over these years through relationship and trust. If our salons succeed, we succeed! It is this principle which has driven us to launch our e-commerce partnership. Brzwd.co.za – salon program Over the past few years, we have seen the rise of e-commerce. We know with certainty that professional salons need to access this space and accommodate the growing segment of their client bases wanting to engage with online shopping. Setting up an online shop takes immense resources and outsourced skills, not only in the initial setup, but on an ongoing basis. These sites require constant upgrades, constant input and ongoing investments to stay relevant. The Breezewood team decided to invest our resources in setting up a platform where our salons could benefit from a digital partnership, where we step together into this digital space. On the 11th April this year we launched this project and its has been successful beyond measure. During the uncertainty of Covid restrictions, it has been extremely busy, and the long term possibilities of this fabulous shop will bring profitability and growth opportunities to salons for many years to come. This is E-commerce with a difference, because the goal is the success of your brick and mortar salon. Our salons pay no subscription fees. Not now, not ever. We want you to make money and we believe charging a monthly fee is completely unscrupulous as it will negate the equal profitability of the partnership. When you succeed, we succeed, we partner together, there is no hidden catch and no hidden fees. Breezewood will take care of everything from payment to delivery. Your clients receive their professional products, your salon gets commission. No order forms and no accounts to pay, no additional investment of your time is required after registration, just ongoing money in the bank for your business. We believe this is an industry leading platform and we are excited to partner with you on it. We are sharing our resources with you, our clients. We will not compete online against your brick and mortar salon. We truly believe this online partnership must be an additional stream of revenue for your salon, and that the bulk of your business must remain as in salon sales. Therefore we will align promotions and sales with what is available in the brick and mortar salons with the brands we represent. It’s salon first. We pay commission monthly. Our current rate is 25%. Develop your online business with a partner you can trust! Step 1 - Register your salon with us via this LINK Step 2 - We review your application, confirm you are a professional salon and grant you affiliate access. Step 3 - You log back in and access your salon’s referral link. You copy and send this to your client base introducing them to your online portal. Step 4 - Your clients shop from home, we deliver, you receive commission Breezewood. Service, simplified. Please contact your Breezewood consultant for any further assistance, or to answer any queries you may have. We are here to assist. It’s a very easy process. • What is the Timeframe for Salons to Reopen?

Good news for the industry! Now that Level 3 is underway, EOHCB and industry organisations are working intensively with government to finalise the safety protocols that will be necessary for the hair and beauty industry to reopen. This reopening will take place in Level 3, and the requirements for salons will be gazetted as soon as they have been finalised and agreed on. Currently, EOHCB and government are finalising these in collaboration and they are making excellent progress in this regard. Reopening is hopefully just a week or two away! Now is the time for you to start focusing on your business, and how you are going to survive and thrive in the “new normal” that we will all be faced with. Some issues you will need to start thinking about and addressing, which Hairnews will cover in the days to come, include: Preparing for reopening and how to comply with the regulations as soon as these are finalised Negotiation with landlords and adjusting rental until you have more certainty about your revenue Pricing of services and ways you can accommodate the hygiene and social distancing demands of a safe environment Optimising the use of your salon in terms of space, time, hours, and sharing with others Ensuring that you can handle the initial flood of clients and how to book / prioritise this while making the most of it Stocking up and restocking on a limited budget, ways to do this as you get back on your feet How you are going to handle the subject of the virus in your salon, your stance and attitude – this will become increasingly important! In the meantime we encourage all hairstylists to take heart – there is light at the end of the tunnel in terms of reopening, and this will be a reality soon in Level 3! Start communicating this to your clients – they will be as excited as you, at the prospect of good hair days ahead. You might also enjoy... • Cruise Ships will Sail Again: Sooner than you Think

The cruise ship industry is heading out of the closures caused due to the Covid-19 pandemic and cruise ships are now looking into the future, at dates to restart their operations. Some cruise lines may resume sailing as early as August this year, while others are hoping to start up again in September, October or November. Because the pandemic has affected different areas at different times and in different ways, many cruise lines will probably offer a staggered reopening based on where they sail. Cruise ships are looking to the latest medical research and technology to guide their protocols in reopening and ensure that public spaces on the ships remain safe and low risk. The good news is that future bookings have been taken up enthusiastically after return sail dates have been published, with most surveyed guests saying that they would not hesitate to book another cruise post-coronavirus. People love cruising, are missing it, and the long term future is looking very bright. Working in an onboard spa will provide you with the adventure of a lifetime! With change happening all around us as a result of the pandemic, why not plan to embark on something totally different in your life and career, that can provide you with a nestegg of savings to allow you to restart and rebuild when you are back in South Africa. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and the ensuing lockdown, the National Bargaining Council wish to inform you of the decisions made between the parties and the Council in terms of the May 2020 accounts. Pension Fund Contributions No contributions for the month of May 2020 will be charged. Employees' benefits will remain intact. Critical Illness and Funeral Cover The Critical Illness Benefit (R 8.92 per month per employee) and the Funeral Cover (R 9.50 per month per employee which is an added benefit through Hollard, is currently funded from the employer’s portion of the contributions towards the fund. The decision was made to not charge these two premiums for May 2020. To ensure the cover for employees remains in place, the April 2020 and May 2020 contributions will be recouped from the employer’s portion of the monthly contribution during June 2020 to October 2020. What this effectively means is that for these months that the employers portion contributed towards the employees’ pension fund will reduce with the arrears. The recoupment will look as follows: This will not result in any additional charges being levied against the employer or the employee during June 2020 to September 2020. Please note that claims arising during this period, will only be paid once all arrears are up to date. Each case will however be negotiated with Hollard on an individual basis Sick Pay Fund The Sick Pay Fund will grant the industry a payment holiday on all Sick Pay Fund contributions for the month of May 2020. This payment holiday will not affect the claims process and benefits will remain intact. • But First, Hair - Modern Hair & Beauty Tips to Re-Open with Excellence

Several countries have relaxed lockdown rules for hairdressers. However, South Africa’s Hair & Beauty Industry is still fighting the good fight to move up to Level 3. Should Government heed our plea, you need to be ready to open your doors, ready to welcome an influx of clients. All of whom have been desperate to return to the salon. Life will soon be a lot busier once we get the go ahead to return to our craft. We expect an avalanche of colour corrections and cuts coming our way! The truth is your clients really miss you. In fact, a recent survey revealed that since the beginning of lockdown, 60% of clients miss hairdressing the most out of any other beauty service, while 90% said they will book a visit to the salon within the first month of reopening. 85% said they would need a colour service as a priority, with a further 50% claiming that getting their hair done boosts their confidence. And just look at Facebook and Instagram for more proof. Endless stories are all saying the same thing: Sure, people want to see their family and friends again… But first, hair. Your job is to make sure that, when they do come back, you’re providing the safest space possible for you and your clients. On the 19 May Modern Hair & Beauty had a Webinar with all our Partnership Salons, and we shared our Re-open With Excellence Plan. Subsequently, we’ve put together seven tips to help you re-open your own salon with excellence. Tip 1. Safety first Modern Hair & Beauty have compiled a summary of best practices of salon operations reopening worldwide and in many cases the regulations countries have put in place will meet or exceed the regulations in South Africa. There may be more exceptional regulations that will be expected for South Africa and once this is announced we will adjust our documents accordingly. In the meantime, we have valuable guidance on Clean Salon Protocols. * Please note that these are only guidelines at this stage and that South Africa’s Health Authority still need to confirm the protocols for our local reopening. Tip 2. Inform and engage your team Each of your team members should be aware about the new salon protocol and sanitary measures before the re-opening of our Industry. It is important for every employee to feel safe in their work environment and to act in the right way with clients. Be in contact with them Re-ensure them Have fun together Tip 3. Couch consultations Couch consultations can help you maintain relationships with your clients. You can also use this as a chance to make advance bookings, this could help with your income as you could offer priority appointments to those who pre-pay. We all know time is money and getting timings right by seeing your client’s hair ahead of their appointments will allow you to judge what kind of service they need. This will make it easier for you to calculate how much time you will spend on their hair. 3 Ways to successful couch consultations: Schedule Consultations Use Video Calling Open your Inbox If you are not sure what to ask, you can kick off with these questions: How do you feel about your hair? Can you show me you colour in natural light? What products are you using to look after your hair? How do you want your hair to look and feel? Tip 4. Manage appointment avalanche Couch consultations will help with booking appointments, but you might still find yourself overwhelmed by the volume of bookings. You don’t want to be turning them away at such a crucial time but, more importantly, you don’t want to overburden your staff or compromise the safety of the salon environment. Modern Hair & Beauty recommends that you do a survey with your clients on your salons opening hours. This will help you decide if shift work is your salons way forward by having your salon open for longer. This way you can spread appointments out and reduce your salon headcount, while fitting more into a day and ensuring staff are only working a few hours at a time. Tip 5. Sign up for our salon finder A listing on Salon Near Me (the Modern Hair & Beauty Salon Finder) is a benefit to our partnership salons. It’s one of our most searched-for pages, so you’re going to want to be on there. Not yet listed? Then contact us to become a Wella or Kadus partnership salon. There are many additional benefits we would like to tell you about, such as earning commission on sales from our online shop, top quality education, preferential pricing, and a host of other support measures. Tip 6. Tips to prepare your salon order Sanitary Products: Make sure you have enough. Refer to our Clean Salon Protocol Documents*. These documents only offer guidance at this stage and cannot replace legal guidance. Just about everything you need to know about reopening is covered, even a list of suppliers of products we cannot supply ourselves. Hair Products: Colour will be a priority to your clients, be sure to have a large shade assortment. You will be faced with Colour corrections. Be sure to have some key technical products like Blondor, Color Renew and WellaPlex. Be inspired by our Post Covid-19 Recommended Services* to get the right products for re-opening and avoid out of stock on your retail shelves. Tip 7. Market Your Salon In the weeks leading up to reopening, get the word out that your salon or freelance business is back. Updating your Instagram is one easy way, so make an announcement on both your stories and grid. If you’re already a partnership salon, make sure you head to Modern Hair & Beauty Marketing Tools*, where you’ll find a huge selection of social media content to use, so your salon stands out. *Certain content is available exclusively to Modern Hair & Beauty Partnership Salons. But we don’t mind sharing all of our Clean Salon Protocol Documents with you. It’s important that our industry opens up responsibly and quickly. Contact your MHB sales representative, or send an email to education@modernhairbeauty.com. Follow Us Instagram Facebook You might also enjoy... • Industry Update: Engagement Has Begun for Reopening during Level 3

Although salons have not been given the immediate “green light” for reopening during Level 3, Minister Patel explained that industry engagement would be a priority, in order to put the correct protocols in place to be allowed to reopen safely. The delay in reopening is due to the fact that social distancing between hairstylist / practitioner and client is not possible and so this will require more stringent regulation to ensure a safe and controlled environment. Although the extra delay is frustrating, there is now a definite light at the end of the tunnel and Hairnews is confident that the engagement between government and industry organisations will be concluded asap and will result in a “revised level 3” reopening with strict conditions in place. We have seen how eager our amazing salons have been to comply with any hygiene requirements, to upskill themselves during lockdown, and to prepare for a speedy and safe reopening. Be patient and positive just a little longer! Reopening is in sight! Click HERE to watch the video clip. Thanks to EOHCB, Bargaining Council and UASA for their tireless work in pleading the case for our salons. Below is EOHCB’s statement made on Wednesday 27th May. We confirm that Hairdressing, Cosmetology, Beauty and Skincare services by the Industry remains prohibited during level 3 of the national lockdown. Minister Patel confirmed that the National Covid-19 Command Commission would engage with the industry immediately to review, develop and confirm health, hygiene and safety protocols for the industry specifically, to secure and ensure an expedited re-opening strategy. The EOHCB will keep members and the industry informed about immediate further engagements with the commission. EOHCB Facebook You might also enjoy...
