- Create a Profitable E-Shop for Your Business with My Salon Software
Come back from lockdown with a better and stronger business model. Yes, that's right. If there is one thing the lockdown has taught us it's how much we value our business. And necessity being the mother of invention there is a real opportunity to re-open with a better and stronger business model. Hair and beauty are firmly rooted in the service industry which traditionally require clients to visit our salons. So, at times when it is not convenient or, as we have seen over the past few weeks, clients are not able to come to the salon, we have "to take the salon to them". That is why MySalon has introduced 'e-shop' to its clients. The concept is by no means new and is already responsible for a phenomenal amount of retail sales across the world. The concept is simple. Most salons have a simple web-site, if not, we will help you to create one. If your current website is written in wordpess this is fairly simple to do. If not, we can create a sub-domain of your existing website using wordpress. If you do not have a functional or effective website we can create one from scratch but that is optional. The salon Client visits your web-site and shops on your e-shop, adding items to their 'basket'. Once they have finished shopping it will produce a summary of the order with the order total. Client then 'sends' the order to the salon's email address. On receipt of the order the salon creates a pro-forma invoice on My Salon Software and emails that to the client for confirmation and a request for payment. On receipt of payment the pro-forma invoice is converted to a tax invoice, the products are picked, packed and sent to the client using one of the numerous delivery options available. Alternatively clients can collect from the salon. Opportunities and benefits: For clients: – The convenience of shopping on-line with delivery to their home or place of work. If clients are not able to come to the salon then "take the salon to them". In addition to the e-shop clients are also able to make appointment requests which are forwarded to the salon's email address for action. For salons: – the opportunity to tap into hair and skin care market where products are not currently being purchased when clients are actually in the salon. An additional income stream for salons so they are not totally (75-90%) dependant on services turnover which require clients to be in the salon. An additional service to strengthen the salon's existing brand values. An ideal marketing opportunity to send regular newsletters, products releases as well as incentives for clients to request service appointments via the salon's website. The Way forward: My Salon Software has the software that can provide salons and spas with e-commerce as well as their everyday salon/spa operations. My Salon Software also has the resources and experience in setting up web-sites with e-commerce as well as client appointment requests from the salon's website to its email address. In order to survive you need to adapt to changes in the market, or die. More positive news for the industry! In an interview on Sunday 14 June on eNCA, Small Business and Development Minister Khumbudzo Ntshavheni confirmed again that all protocols are in place for salons in all sectors of the beauty industry to reopen. The minister explained that the delay in publishing the safety protocols, which Government had announced would be done on Friday 5, June was caused by specific health concerns regarding the tattoo industry which forms part of this sector. Additional safety protocols will need to be put in place for this sector and these still have to be approved by the Medical Advisory Council. All other protocols are ready to be announced, both for the rest of the beauty sector (including hair salons) and also for restaurants to reopen, in what government is calling "advanced Level 3". The Minister indicated that the protocols would be approved by latest Wednesday 17 June. This is positive news for salons - if Government adheres to the Wednesday deadline, we could see salons being ready to open just a few days later. Karl Markwald of ESP and the Collective Corporation is predicting that if government keeps to their deadlines, a realistic scenario for opening may be Monday 22nd June. "Get your staff prepared and on standby ASAP. Notify your clients that opening is immenent and get your waiting list filled. Make sure your prevention of infection protocols are in place. Prepare as if you are going to battle. You cannot afford to make any mistakes. This is the lifeline we have been waiting for. Hope is renewed." Hairnews will follow with more updates asap. Once again, we would like to thank the EOHCB, Bargaining Council and UASA the Union for the endless hours that they have spent engaging with government to finalise these protocols in enough detail to satisfy the Medical Advisory Council that reopening can be done safely, and also to have prepared further with a contingency plan to enforce the reopening in court if necessary. We thank everyone who has taken the time to write and plead to Government for the speediest possible reopening, and to all those individuals who have remained positive and supportive of the efforts made by our industry organisations during this very challenging time. Hairnews will keep the industry updated asap and will publish the safety protocols as soon as they are announced. You might also enjoy... - Kevin Tabilo Creates “Online Protest” for Salons to Reopen
Industry personality Kevin Tabilo, national sales manager for Ref, recently came up with a fabulous way for the reopening pleas to be heard online. A socially distanced “peaceful protest” at shopping malls holding signs, or else publishing photos online holding signs, will help to spread awareness of the industry’s plight, and hopefully motivate Government to publish the safety protocols asap. “A movement without action is just words,” Kevin says, explaining that he is glad to be speaking out and doing something in a public platform, to help gain support and awareness for the industry’s reopening asap. “There are ways to be heard that can be done peacefully and without putting any of us in danger,” he explains. Watch the fabulous video from Shag High Voltage Hair below. - Business Insider article causes concern in industry
An article published by Business Insider on Friday 12 June, stating that industry “demands June bonuses”, has caused a lot of concern in the industry. We are aware that Business Insider is being contacted with the correct facts to update this article. Below is an explanation – short summary: if you are paying your staff according to the industry’s prescribed salaries then you have no need for concern. Factual Update The main agreement and all its provisions have now been extended to non-parties. A non-party is a salon/employee/legal owner who is or is not registered with the National Bargaining Council and who has chosen not to be a member of the EOHCB or UASA the Union. When salaries for party salons/employees increased 1 Sept 2019, non-parties could not increase salaries or pay the once off ex-gratia increase in salary for the month of August 2019 because it only applied to party salons/employees. Now with the extension of the agreement to non-parties, the 2019-2020 salary increases becomes applicable and the once-off ex-gratia "bonus" payment for non-party salons/employees. If you increased salaries 1 Sept 2019 like you should have, and if you remunerate according to the prescribed salaries of the industry, the ex-gratia "bonus" was paid for August 2019 already and the extension does not apply to you. The industry will be publishing further updates on this asap. - 5 Reasons Why You Should Add WELLAPLEX To Your Post-Lockdown Treatments
WELLAPLEX is the unsung hero of many colour treatments; the little extra that makes a big difference to the quality and health of your client's hair. We love this treatment because its smart formula reduces damage and adds strength to every strand by reinforcing the hair bonds from within. To ensure clients walk out of your salon with stronger, healthier hair after their first post-lockdown service, we recommend adding WELLAPLEX to your colour services. You can even offer a WELLAPLEX treatment as a stand-alone treatment. Reasons why we recommend WELLAPLEX Reason 1: Protects and strengthens the hair during your colour services The treatment contains an exclusive technology that helps to reconstruct inner hair bonds. Mix the No1 Bond Maker with colour for better results. It's the first step of the treatment and helps to create bonds within the hair during lightening or colour services. Reason 2: Reduces breakage With its exclusive Opti pH System, WELLAPLEX ensures your client's hair stays healthy throughout all stages of the colouring process. The second step in the WELLAPLEX treatment called the No2 Bond Stabilizer further strengthens the bonds, re-balances PH. It strengthens the hair structure after a chemical treatment. Reason 3: Can have stand-alone treatment to strengthen hair WELLAPLEX is a stand-alone service as well, making this the perfect post-lockdown or between-colour-services boost for your clients. Reason 4: Leaves hair looking and feeling healthier The WELLAPLEX treatment treats hair from the inside out resulting in hair that looks well-conditioned and feels softer. Reason 5: Your client can take home a product Clients can take a little bit of this treatment home with them. They can fully benefit from the in-salon service by using the No3 Hair Stabilizer at home once a week. The home-care treatment helps to keep the hair strong, smooth, and soft until the next WELLAPLEX treatment. Bold or subtle hair changes can be made with the assurance that hair will be healthier, flexible and more manageable. We're making this our preferred post-lock down treatment. - Industry Engagement: Email Your Plea for Urgent Reopening to Government Today
Hairnews would like to encourage the industry to make a collective plea to government to publish the reopening protocols asap. We encourage each and every affected hairdresser to write to government TODAY with your plea for why they need to publish the reopening protocols asap. We at Hairnews feel that "first prize" is liaising directly with Government for one last push, since Government themselves have said the protocols have been finalised and are almost ready. Engaging with government is a proactive step that you can do TODAY, and having government publish the protocols immediately is the quickest way that we will be able to reopen. How to Send Your Plea: Email info@cogta.gov.za Copy ministry@economic.gov.za Copy info@hairnews.co.za In your email you can state: You are aware the protocols for hair and beauty to reopen have basically been finalised and that you would like to plead for them to be published asap. Explain your willingness to adhere to the protocols and operate safely. By all means draw comparisons with other industries of equal risk that are already open. Describe the extreme urgency of this situation and the impact that every day without work is causing, worsening the dire plight of hairdressers and salons. Emphasise to government that for all of us the first prize is to open NOW and that each day that passes without reopening means more businesses are having to close and people going hungry. Please encourage all your staff and colleagues to send the same email TODAY. Please copy Hairnews so that we have a record of the pleas. What Not to Say Please do not threaten that you will operate illegally if you cannot open. This will only indicate to the ministers that the industry is "ungovernable" and this may impact negatively on their decision to reopen hair and beauty. Please keep the email courteous and factual, do not include abuse or swearing, as some spam filters do not allow this through and we need your emails to be heard! Thank you to everyone in the industry for making this effort - let's all give a final, united push to reopen asap. Having Government agree to publish the protocols which are already finalised, will be the fastest way for us to reopen!
