- Styles Vibe by Jude McEwen, Toni & Guy Perth Central, Australia
It's a sense felt in the body and in the mind, you can feel it within yourself and within the room you're standing in. It can be both good and bad and be felt almost immediately. In the case of this year's 2020 collection by Jude McEwen, many elements and a new collective of inspirational people came into play to inspire this feeling that is "VIBE. The collection is largely inspired by Jude's work over the last twelve months on the development and design of the new young 'Future Talent' Mentor Program that she wrote for TONI&GUY Australia. Jude found herself immersed in a continuous momentum of new creative and positive minds eager to reach out to be a part of this program to learn and experiment. From her part, it involved accepting change and embracing a new generational approach within the digital age with fresh visions and new perspectives. Discovering a great new energy and source of creative inspiration through this mentoring program brought about the collection you see - it's the 'VIBE' of this initiative. The hair is graphic, strong, defined and elegant in appearance. Texture plays an integral part in this collection. Inspired by Alexander McQueen's lace stitching techniques into fabrics, Jude drew inspiration from this technique into the hair prep with the use of crochet needles to weave hair through hair. Building this crafted texture technique that is exaggerated against the shapes of the hair and its natural movement adds a sense of playfulness and individuality to each look. Recognizing the variety in today's fashion and as a form of individual expression, both the hair and overall styling was approached with a duality of strength meets delicate feminine edging. Graphic shapes of hair are accessorized with leather in clothing and is matched with a dash of softness in the treatment of the hair and characterized with feminine flowing lace throughout the looks. The fashion styling and makeup added to the execution of each look with another intentional element of softness, showcased the true inner strength of womanhood and her independence. To truly get a sense of the overall vibe pulsating through the creative styling, photography was always approached with the intention of creating a black and white collection. This was to highlight dimension and silhouette. To capture a true feeling, black and white photography was the perfect medium to achieve this. The lighting was designed for adjustable output based on the different tone and shapes of the hair. 'VIBE'' is a powerful, fierce and positively encompassing feeling you just want to join in and be a part of. - Business Insights #1: Staff
As we start a new year two things happen. Business slows down and the things we do during these quieter times determine how busy we will become later in the year. One of the most effective and rewarding uses of time over the first three months of the year is conducting staff performance reviews. The three main benefits of doing this exercise are – productive use of quieter times, valuable feedback to the people responsible for generating the turnover and the opportunity to plan with your staff how to grow your business and their salaries. The key performance indicators include: • Number of clients attended to • The number of regular, referrals and walk-in clients • Retention rate – number of first time clients re-booking • Average spend per client i.e. average docket value • Number of chemical services done versus clients serviced • Number of treatments done versus chemical services • Retail sales compared to services These are the key areas in which an increase in numbers dynamically affects both turnover and stylist earnings. For this process to be successful staff need to fully understand their strengths and weaknesses and then commit to an agreed set of targets which will show their growth (or lack thereof) at the next performance review. The result is a win, win, win for the clients, for the individual and for the business as a whole. All the information can be found in the various My Salon Software reports including the KPI report, staff turnover analysis and the client source report. All you need to do is to make it happen. This blog in one of a series of business insights which can be accessed on www.mysalonsoftware.co.za If you have any questions or specific requests please email info@mysalonsoftware.co.za www.mysalonsoftware.co.za info@mysalonsoftware.co.za terry@mysalonsoftware.co.za | 083 650 0952 aletta@mysalonsoftware.co.za | 064 504 6001
- Running With Scissors Durban Seminar Ahead
Sometimes we need to ask ourselves hard questions. For too long the industry has not shared knowledge. It is time to expand and improve the industry as a whole. RWS was started in 2019 as a hair consultancy company by Andrew Guilfoyle, co-founder of scar hair in Cape Town. After 30 years in the industry realised that his focus was now ready to be placed into the industry as a whole, instead of just in his own salon. In the last 2 years he has worked with many different salons across the country as well as internationally. The idea of RWS is to create a holistic and transparent approach to each salon and individual with the aim of growth. Creatively and financially. The topic for Durban is EDUCATION IS THE CONSULTATION. This focuses on the importance of education and how it translates into sales. Happier client, more successful stylists. We are happy to announce that CROP will be hosting RWS on Monday the 15th February. Booking: consultwithrws@gmail.com
