  • Styles: Ablaze by Kristie Kesic, Australia

Marrakech, a place where you are surrounded by pops of beautiful colour all around the city. You slide out of your hotel and walk down the uneven corridors painted all shades of blue. You look around at the walls lined with coloured hanging pots, overflowing with green leaves. Yves Saint Laurent once said “This city taught me colour.” He was talking about Morocco and it’s easy to see why. It is a photographic paradise. You leave the streets behind you step into the magical world of the Moroccan Souk. The walls are hung with hand woven carpets and bunches of coloured string. The mosaic-patterned steps guide you from one place to another. You gaze wistfully at perfect pyramids of coloured powders, wondering how on earth their owners keep them looking so pristine. Material drapes from ceilings with lanterns peeping through. Circle ceramics are hung to somehow not fall from the walls With this collection I wanted to give a sensory wander through the Souks of Marrakech. It evokes a sense of taking a walk through a colourful, chaotic, and mysterious place. The colours represent the multi-coloured mishmash of these markets. Each image is a visual representation on its own, yet as a collection, it’s a vibrant story. The hair and hairstyles represent the textures of layered rugs hanging and blowing in the breeze, the spices piled high within pots and flowers hung upside down to dry alongside bunches of chillies, all juxtaposed against the alluring, vibrant showcase of powders. These are colours and textures that clash yet work so perfectly together. In the Ablaze collection, the blue background represents the street colours. Glowy skin depicts the sun shining through the broken wooden roof slates of the markets and bright clothing is a further extension of the hair providing a bright, yet contrasting pallet. • Educated Beards Hits SA Shores! Proudly Brought to You by Shift Holdings

Educated Beards is a premium beard grooming range covering all aspects of your beard maintenance from wash, oil, balms, butters or wax. We use only the highest quality, 100% natural and organic ingredients designed to hydrate your skin, eliminate itch and remove the dreaded 'beard-druff'. EDUCATED NOTE: What is 'beard-druff'? ~ It's the beard's version of dandruff. With a vast array of essential oils, as well as Argon, Jojoba, grape seed and hemp seed oils, Safflower and shea butter just to name a few, we ensure that your beard care and grooming will keep you looking and feeling confident at all times. EDUCATED NOTE: What is Safflower? ~ Safflower oil is a healthy source of essential fatty acids, these leave the hair, or in this case, the beard strong, promoting healthy hair growth. It also benefits the skin, with its anti-inflammatory properties while opening up the pores. As more gents embark on the journey of a bearded lifestyle and the fashion trend grows (did you see what we did there) 🤔 it is imperative that our beards are cared for and well groomed, after all no one likes a caveman stigma! It is just as important that we are mindful as to what ingredients we can use on our skin and facial hair, as using a traditional shampoo or body wash on our faces can strip it of the natural oils. Educated Beards uses only the purest and highest quality natural ingredients with no fillers, artificial fragrances, alcohol or other harmful ingredients which could damage the epidermis. EDUCATED NOTE: What is a caveman? ~ A homosapien that is uneducated in the art of beard grooming. When purchasing an Educated Beards product for you or your clients, you are investing in a premium, sustainable and environmentally conscious product that is safe to use, even for pets. In the manufacturing process, Educated Beards, produced in Canada and registered with Health Canada, uses no preservatives, paraben's or any harmful ingredients. Products are bottled in smaller batches to guarantee freshness and quality of the product, in recyclable glass containers. EDUCATED NOTE: Why are the bottles dark brown? ~ To prevent leaching and contamination, and to protect the contents from UV exposure. Educated Beards has four variants namely, Peppermint Cedarwood, Bergamot & Grapefruit, Balsam eclipse and an unscented product for those who prefer their own cologne versus scented products... it's a win-win. EDUCATED NOTE: We also have matching fragrances in our scented candle range, providing soothing and calming experiences in-store or at home. We're more than just a brand, we are about family. We cannot wait to welcome you into our EB family! Contact us to find out more Shaun Wiegand: 079 459 6161 Email: shaun@hairlaquin.co.za Facebook: @ShiftHoldings Instagram: @shift_hairandbeauty

  • Seasonal Texture with Andrew Smith

Summer 22 is upon us and it’s no surprise that clients are open to experimental looks, much more creative and statement like than ever before, having missed out on the summer sun following the global pandemic. With clients jetting off to the sunshine, our attention now turns to the trends that will be taking the industry and the beaches by storm, advising clients on how to wear their hair, the products to use ad how to care for it in between times. For summer 2022, the seasonal trend is focused very much on texture, making the hair much more voluminous and creative to touch. The addition of texture to any style adds a completely different dimension and can take a look from subtle to statement in just a few steps. Using the correct products will enhance the look and maintain the texture and volume for the duration required. Bouncy Blowdry Although a favourite in the colder months, the bouncy blowdry is back for summer 22, with clients opting for a much more voluminous and statement look. Adding a more natural feel to the style, I would recommend being a little more free with the style through the mid length, loosely drying off curls, allowing them to finish drying more naturally. When creating the curls, using a large barrel brush and heat directed to the roots will give the hair added lift and volume throughout. Must have products – milk_shake lifestyling amazing curls & waves. The Not So Natural Look Everyone loves the natural look, when it’s not created so naturally! This look is very much inspired by the beach vibes, with clients opting for a look that appears to resemble one that dries naturally. When creating this look, it’s important to follow the movement of the hair and allow it to somewhat follow it’s own pattern. Using a styling spray will allow you to lightly support the hair whilst adding to the condition of the hair, and giving a much more natural feel, Must have products – milk_shake lifestyling styling potion Braided Beauty Braids are a huge trend in summer and that will never change, they can work for both day and night styles and there are so many different ways in which they can be worn. The infinity braid will be one that will be hugely popular this summer, with added lace or ribbons throughout to give the look a touch of uniqueness. Teamed with a ponytail or low chignon, this is a look that will turn heads. Must have products – milk_shake let it shine

Ethnic hair is more vulnerable to breakage when it is damaged by rough handling, chemical use or heat styling. Dandruff To avoid dandruff we need to get rid of the causes and take care of our scalps. Hair needs to be washed frequently with a good SLS free shampoo and conditioner such as milk_shake curl passion shampoo and conditioner. It also helps to keep the scalp moisturised. Hair Loss Avoiding tight braids or extensions as well as relaxers will help escape hair loss. We recommend milk_shake curl Passion Leave-In Treatment to moisturize and strengthen the hair. Itchy Scalp Washing hair more frequently and not allowing products to build up will help keep itchiness away. We also recommend milk_shake deep cleansing shampoo and no_frizz milk to make the scalp happy and healthy.
