During the pursuit of my BCom degree in Business Management, my focus gravitated towards Human Resource Management and Labour Law. This academic journey coincided with my professional engagement at EOHCB, where I assumed the role of a dedicated Labour Consultant. Subsequently, I extended my academic endeavours, culminating in the successful completion of an Honours in Business. Management. Throughout this pursuit, I selected Labour Relations and Human Resources as my principal areas of specialization. Accumulating substantial years of training and practical experience in this field, I have consistently contributed to the industry by assisting employers in navigating intricate HR and Labour-related intricacies. This journey has led me to my current role as the Junior Manager for Northern Gauteng. As a proficient Labour Relations Consultant, my primary responsibility is to guide employers in adhering to the industry's Main Collective Agreement alongside other pertinent labour legislations. Employing a range of strategies including counselling and mediation, I play a pivotal role in resolving disputes, while also representing employers in instances where these conflict resolution methods have been exhausted. This representation spans conciliation and arbitration proceedings within the CCMA and HCSBC Bargaining Council. In line with this conviction, I offer advisory, training, and counselling services tailored for employers, managers, and staff. • Style Inspiration: ART by Olga Garcia, Spain

Olga García Estilistas presents their ART Collection: a tribute to a cast of inspiring artists such as Yayoi Kusama, a pioneering avant-garde Japanese artist of pop and minimalism; Piet Mondrian, avant-garde painter who promoted neoplasticism; and Vasily Kandinsky, renowned pioneer and theorist of abstract art. Olga García's proposal focuses on interpreting the style of each of these artists and expressing it through the art of hair. To achieve the pictorial effect, she used the technique of stamping on the hair, reviewing and correcting every detail, taking into account that the printing is done on a flat surface and the placement implies a change of volume and an alteration of the drawing due to the spherical contour of the head. • Summer 2023 Colour Inspiration – Let’s Wash Loadshedding out of Our Hair!

After a long, cold winter of inconvenient loadshedding, it’s time to embrace Spring and throw our salon doors open to clients ready to venture forth into the sunshine and enjoy life! We had a look at the trends that seem on the top of mind for clients and it seems that warm tones, low maintenance, lived-in hair, soft hues and glossing are in. Copper seems to be mentioned a lot too! So let’s look at the on-trend colours and talk to our featured South African colour suppliers about what they have for you! Our Featured South African Suppliers: Wella: Unlock the Beauty of Spring with Wella Shinefinity milk_shake®: The Gloss Colour Demi Hybrid System - Ammonia free acidic colour treatment Goldwell: Goldwell’s New Color Line Topchic Zero Wella: Vibrant Spring Colours with Wella Color Fresh Mask MUK: Innovative Technology - MUK's 7-in-1 Hybrid Colour Blume Brands: L’ANZA Healing Hair Color & Care According to three of the biggest names in the Australian hair industry — Jaye Edwards, Anthony Nader and Larry King — spring is the perfect time to try something new that will grow with you. "Consumers want high-impact colour but with little fuss and upkeep," says Nader. "They want some fun and change, but without the pain of burning their hair strands off with continual colour changes." Edwards agrees and says that the lack of experimentation he's seeing in the salon is a direct result of the times. "With the cost of living on the rise, clients are becoming more conscious of their spending," he explains. He advises his clients to work with their natural hair colour rather than against it and opts for "lived-in colours that add a little pop" that can be achieved using a root stretch technique or a quick gloss that takes about 15 minutes. Nader is all for switching up his client's hair colour this season and he's looking to the myriad shades of copper to do so. "The copper spectrum has warm variations, but copper can also be cool in reflect, believe it or not." He's recommending an overall copper glaze to his clients: "It’s not only going to give your hair strands high voltage shine but it also makes your eye colour pop." "'Golden Hour' is defined by those warm, golden shades that offer an on-trend alternative to cooler blonde tones than we have seen over summer," says Edwards. "It's also less damaging to your hair than the '90s blonde shades which were trending in 2022." "TikTok’s viral 'Cherry Cola' hair colour trend is one for the Y2K fans," says Edwards. "A transition from the copper trend that dominated in 2022, this deep, cola-inspired cherry colour is the next big thing". "This colour is also fully customisable to suit your skin tone, depending on how deep and bright you want your hair to go," he advises. Ask your hair colourist for a deep, brunette base enhanced with copper and red tones. "It’s no secret that maintaining blonde hair can be an expensive and time-consuming exercise," says Edwards. Instead of high-maintenance blonde, hair customers are now looking to 'future-proof' colours like 'recession brunette'. "We have seen a big increase in requests for 'natural but beautiful' hair," explains the Edwards & Co. founder. 'Au La Naturale' hair colour is in the same vein as recession brunette. Nader dubs it “the colour you have when you’re not having a colour”. However, unlike recession brunette, the 'au la naturale' trend allows you to keep your pre-existing highlights and balayage by toning them down with soft, warm tones that fuse beautifully with your post-winter skin tone. What's freehand painting you ask? According to Nader, it's perfect "for those still finding that their natural base is a fraction too dark and requires a kick of lightness." To counter this, your hair colourist will hand paint "calculated yet under-the-radar lightness" into your hair that gives lacklustre strands some dimension again. Plus, it minimises the likelihood of regrowth or stripy hair colour. Think: naturally sun-kissed. According to Larry King, hairstylist and founder of Larry King haircare, if there's one blonde trend to try this spring, it's 'Parisian Blonde'. "This is one for those with naturally fair hair or who have already made the move to being blonde as it’s a subtle tweak on your base hair colour," he explains. "It’s a classic golden beige but applied so finely that you can’t see where the blonde begins and ends." King recommends requesting classic highlights with a root smudge that gives a natural blend the next time you head to the salon. • Business Blog 18 September 2023: Image & Reputation

If business is quieter than you would like perhaps you need to make more noise! Another name for noise is marketing - making people aware of you, becoming relevant, sought after and desirable. For marketing to be really effective there are two things you need to focus on - IMAGE & REPUTATION. When you first started your salon you probably had a vision of what you wanted your business to be. Have you achieved that? When clients come into your salon, what image are they greeted with? Everything clients experience during their time in your salon either adds to, or takes away from, their salon experience and their memory of a visit to your salon. Considering clients spend so little time in the salon it is crucial that the memory of their last visit, the image that appears in their heads when the think of you - the warm friendly greeting, the hospitality, the professional consultation they receive each and every visit, the professional recommendations they receive that helps them manage their hair between visits to the salon are all positive. The second part of this marketing exercise is to get people talking about you. Give them something to talk about! Ask them to talk about you! and they will! A visit to the salon is a mind-changer for clients - they feel more glamorous, younger, self-confident and they will receive compliments from their friends and colleagues. This is when these satisfied clients should be describing YOU from the memory they have of a visit to your salon. So much is in the referrals. It's called network marketing - getting existing clients to refer friends, colleagues, other members of their family - the prospects are endless. Consider ways to reward clients who do refer new clients or are social influencers, either by adding them to your loyalty programme, making them VIP clients, or appointing them as salon ambassadors. It's that simple! Keep in mind the critical factor - those same clients will tell MORE people about a bad salon experience so we really need to focus 100% of our energy on creating the perfect salon experience for each of our clients, all of the time, every time. – Terry Miles, MD MySalon Software Email: info@mysalonsoftware.co.za Web: mysalonsoftware.co.za
