  • How Lighting Changes Colour – Photos by Flo Neacsu, Excentric

What do you do when your clients bring in a photo of a hair colour, and want you to replicate the colour? According to Flo Neacsu of Excentric Hair, Cape Town, “For all the clients that go to the hair salon with a picture and want that exact look, I am attaching some pictures of a colour I've done recently. I took pictures from different angles, with the same phone and no filters. I would like you to see the huge difference in colour that is given by the light, angle or coloured wall behind the client. So if your client asks for an exact colour, remember the picture is influenced by many factors including the camera, the light, and the surroundings. The reality is that NO hair colour can look exactly like a photo.”

  • L’Oréal Colour Trophy – Planning and Photography Tips

With L’Oréal Colour Trophy excitement building, now is the time to start planning and preparing for your look... from concept to photography, your chosen style must be flawlessly executed. Before you create your look, you need to intensively research your concept and theme, taking inspiration from the fashion catwalks and creating something that stands out for all the right reasons. Fashion-inspired, original, eyecatching, and trendy. Putting together a mood board can help you to shape your concept. Model choice is crucial, and a super-attractive appearance is very important to showcase your style and catch the judges’ eyes. Choose a model who is confident and photogenic, with good features, good skin and good hair. Make sure that your chosen look will work with her features and face shape. Having a great photographer who understands hair, and an experienced photographic make-up artist, is essential. Lighting is all-important to showcase your colour. Keep your background simple, as a “busy” background will detract from the hair. Speak to your team beforehand about your desired look, and brief them well so that you all know exactly what you want to achieve during the shoot. When you prepare for your shoot, attention to detail is key. The look must be flawless, and the camera will pick up all the tiny details. A helpful hint: Instead of looking at your model during the shoot, look at the computer screen, because what you see there is the visual you will be submitting. Make sure everything that is in the photograph, works well with the total look – make-up and clothing included. Quote to Inspire: “I love having the opportunity to create an image and develop something that isn’t necessarily “everyday”. I wanted to be a part of something that was amazing and something that I knew would push me creatively. To have the chance to showcase my work to some of the biggest names in the industry in itself is so exciting.” Linton & Mac – 2017 UK Colour Trophy Winner Love the L’Oréal Colour Trophy? • Hairoscopes April 2018

What do your stars foretell this month? Astrologist Zema reveals. For a full personalised reading, contact her on 083 430 1456. ARIES 21 MARCH – 19 APRIL Aries, dear Aries, you need to start concentrating on what you want to do and stop hanging on and hanging on. You may just run out of time and of course, the famous patience. (Run, everybody, run!!) There is somebody who has done you harm in one way or another; hide sharp objects and walk away – he or she is not worth it. You really have a new beginning, we’re all excited… TAURUS 20 APRIL – 20 MAY You really have plans like mad! You’re intelligent (mostly), so the best thing to do is to get advice on making that pile of money that is waiting for you. Besides this fabulous thing, there’s also movement in the love life. Somebody adores the ground you walk on! How do you get so lucky, Taurus? Now use what passes for a brain with you and do everything right, and right now! GEMINI 21 MAY – 20 JUNE You always have two paths to follow as a Gemini, (drives people mad), but in this case you have to look at the long-term results of what you decide to do concerning work. Suddenly you’re popular in the work area (why?). Probably because you can always see both sides of a story. Very good, but can be very boring also. So, make up your mind and find the path you want to follow… CANCER 21 JUNE – 22 JULY Your living area appears to be getting on your nerves, Cancer. Maybe its time to look around at something different for a change. There are so many places just waiting for a Crab to waltz in and take over. Everything new, very exciting. You must look carefully before you dive into something and start with the endless details. Have a discussion with the loved one, but hide knives etc. LEO 23 JULY – 22 AUG Righto, Leo! You appear to have incredible energy for new ideas especially concerning work. Somebody offers you something that should really get you up and going. Just check details first and then – Take over the world! Love life doesn’t look too bad, but don’t go and mess it up by making decisions about work without discussing it with him/her. Get on the same path. Gently… VIRGO 23 AUG – 22 SEP You seem to have enthusiasm right now for making changes of all descriptions, which is fine, but they really need to be discussed in great detail (which you are so good at, it can bore people to death) before you make any moves. Once you’ve decided on whatever it is, moving house, moving job, getting acquainted with that interesting person, whatever, just don’t make any regrettable mistakes. LIBRA 23 SEP – 22 OCT Time to pay attention to what you really want. Something has been sitting at the back of your mind for a long time and right now you feel you should be doing it. All well and good, but under no circumstances leave the loved one out of it. That is really looking for trouble … Whether the loved one will be involved with you in this new enterprise or not makes no difference. Discuss… SCORPIO 23 OCT – 21 NOV Scorp, sometimes your jealousy puts horrible thoughts in your head. Stop it now, your loved one is perfectly straight with you and will not walk away. What’s the matter with you? You’ve got better things to do, like concentrating on improving your job and finding that hobby you’ve been seeking for so long. If you’re artistic, you’ll surprise everyone, even yourself. How’s that? SAGITTARIUS 22 NOV – 21 DEC OK Sag – here we go! You’re about to get a whole lot of money-making suggestions from various sources, but you really, really, need to use the brain here. Sag is very good at this, just impatient. You may get offers you had never thought of before and be surprised by the outcome. Talk to somebody who can give you concrete advice and hide your irritation at waiting. We know you! CAPRICORN 21 DEC – JAN 20 You are in the process of learning. Man, the Universe has been patient. So has everybody else, watching from a distance. Your life lessons have been astonishing, not just in how they have happened, but what you’ve actually learnt from them. We’re all surprised! You’ve learnt some patience, which appeared to be impossible a while back, so use this if you are waiting for true love… AQUARIUS 20 JAN – 18 FEB Surprise surprise! At last you seem to be taking notice of the lessons you have learnt, and as time goes on, you will develop on this path further and further. Now you need to look again at your job and decide if you want to change it or not. However, the Universe is giving you a bit of a warning – don’t jump into anything you’re not sure of. Even love life looks good! Congrats Aqua! PISCES 19 FEB – 20 MARCH You’ve got something new coming your way, Pisces! Looks good and positive, you just need to keep your famous twisted patience until its done. You are going to be amazed at how different life is going to look very shortly.
