- Theresa Advises
The start of a new year is always a good time to reflect. So, it’s fitting that as stylists we consider that what defines us is the beauty we create. The greatest influence on our creative process and success lies in our colour technique. True colour craftsmanship is the ability to have perfect concentration at the time of creation – i.e. the mindful and deliberate decision for quality. The best advice I can give to colourists is: keep re-inventing what you do and make salon visits memorable for every client. More importantly, let’s stop being prisoners of maintenance. I challenge you to learn how to evolve the ombre/balayage, how to create bespoke colours, and finally, to know with absolute certainty, that blonde is not a colour it’s a way of life. Wella has been educating stylists for decades which is why we should be your chosen partner to take your colour craft to the next level. Love Theresa Advises? Like Wella’s Facebook page HERE.

- Broken Balayage by Paul Hackett from Hackett Biutiful
A soft infusion of brightening pink, with no hard lines... this masterful colour is a head-turner! Here’s how Paul Hackett created it. • Firstly I highlighted the hair with Superplex bleaching powder which contains a polyamino sugar condensate – it’s like a bleach on steroids. • After processing bleach, rinsing and blow drying, I did the Broken Balayage technique. • I used 4 elastics tying two on sides of head, one at the back of head and one on top. • I backcombed with a wide toothcomb, pushing back a substantial amount of hair. • Then I applied Pravana Vivids, in rosepink and magenta, mixing the two together. • I processed, treated and blow dried for a soft, gorgeous result with no hard lines! - CHI Reports Back: Miss Universe in Cape Town
Newly crowned Miss Universe, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, returned to South African soil this week for her official homecoming celebration. “Winning the Miss Universe title was not only a personal victory but a victory for the whole rainbow nation. I couldn’t be more proud to represent South Africa. I hope this will inspire every single girl with a dream, that with hard work and dedication any dream is reachable,” says Demi-Leigh. Inge Peacock, Managing Director of Glamit – exclusive South African distributors of CHI, the official haircare sponsor of the Miss Universe Organization, expressed her delight at seeing a local woman sitting on the universal throne. “At Glamit, we empower women to look fabulous, feel gorgeous and express their own inner beauty. We believe that in order to be truly glamorous, one should also be socially conscious. Demi-Leigh completely embodies these qualities and we are proud to be affiliated with this phenomenal woman who is truly deserving of her title.” Demi-Leigh explained that her hair is an important part of who she is, and if her hair is healthy and looks great, she feels confident. “Taking good care of my hair is just as important to me as taking good care of my body and soul,” she explains. Demi-Leigh’s Haircare Routine She washes her hair every second or third day with CHI Tea Tree Oil Shampoo to remove impurities and excess scalp build up, balance oils and maintain ideal moisture levels. She follows this with the CHI Tea Tree Oil Conditioner to replenish, moisturize and nourish hair and scalp. Demi-Leigh has a lot of hair, which can be heavy. When it lacks volume, her quick fix for this is the CHI Dry Shampoo, which lifts her roots and gives her hair great body, whilst preventing it from getting oily fast. She’s a big fan of the CHI 1″ Volcanic Lava Ceramic Hairstyling Iron, which is perfect for straightening her hair or making beautiful waves, and her other top tools are the CHI Rocket Dryer which dries her thick tresses 50% faster than regular dryers, and the CHI Ellipse Teflon and Titanium Styling Wand to create perfect curls and waves. Before styling, she uses the CHI Rose Hip Oil Repair & Shine Leave-In Tonic to instantly add moisture, shine and strength, whilst eliminating frizz and controlling static for smooth, manageable hair. If you would like to stock the ranges used by Demi-Leigh in your salon, call 021 790 1669 or email info@glamit.co.za.
- Colour Predictions part 2: Bronze Colour Trends
Harriet Franks, head colourist from Blue Tit, Peckham, UK, has analysed catwalk trends to predict what colours will be the biggest hits going into spring 2018. Here’s her next prediction – Bronze Age! (Click HERE to read about Gritty Pink.) At the spring-summer shows, there was a noticeable shift from the typical season of blonde locks, to a season of much darker styles. Monotone chocolate box shades were in evidence, unusual for going into summer! The most gorgeous brunette look was from the Moschino show, where a short, sassy 90s cut was tinted a shimmering shade of bronze. This is a refreshing alternative to the sunkissed styles and balayage techniques. It was perfectly monotone and artificially glossy. To create this in the salon, simply go for a rich mahogany brown all over, choosing a colour full of natural warmth. Follow up with a shine boosting treatment for an ultra-glossy finish.
