- Global Zoom 2019 Report Back
Almost 3,000 hairstylists from around the globe, including our SA superstars, Color Zoom national winners Yvonne Bryson and Bernadine Malan, arrived in Vienna, Austria, for the Global Zoom Event on 29-30 September 2019. This event included incredible shows, inspiring artist sessions, the launch of Goldwell’s Couture Collection 2020 themed “Intrepid”, and of course, the Global Zoom competition. It was a proud moment for South Africa to have Salome de Wet, a previous Color Zoom winner, as part of the Goldwell Elumenators team who presented the newly relaunched Elumen and Elumen Play. They showcased the future of creativity in colour to guests. A trend-driven presentation featured Goldwell’s top international artists giving insights about the new colour and style fashion directions, and the KMS Style Color Presentation wowed the audience with the latest urban fashion looks for KMS. The Goldwell Master Stylist team presented new, exciting and creative shapes and colour concepts to guests. The Color Zoom Challenge was a breathtaking showcase of colour and talent from all over the globe, featuring 91 national finalists from 38 different countries. Congratulations to the global winners: New Talent: J Lim from Singapore Creative Category: Irakli Sardalishvili from Russia Partner Category: Yuujin Ho from Singapore Stylists’ Favourite Award: Richard Munslow from the UK (New Talent) and Laurent Roma Hanlon from the UK (Creative Category) The gala show launched the Goldwell Couture Collection for 2020 – a unique, bold and daring collection called Intrepid. - Scar Hair Elevates Women Through Education
Many who have been to scar will know that is made up of mostly women. Many of our staff are among the population in SA with the least amount of education. Most travel to and from work daily, in real danger and most are living in some of our highest crime rated areas and are living with the trauma of what that means daily. It is an ongoing project of Jodi’s (one half of scar), to help to empower these women and to change the way that they feel about themselves to the point that it can begin to impact on their lives in a positive way. This begins with education. With confidence. With commitment. The Hair Cares Foundation which is based in Canada, was founded by Is Salon owner Erin Whitney Moore. They too have reached a point where they want to do more. Connecting with us here in SA has been the first step to do so. We are therefore excited to announce the South African project with Hair Cares We will be educating and mentoring 6 women who are desperate to learn more and up their skills. The course will give these women the basic understanding of hair skills and the confidence that will allow them to learn (and then earn) more. The first leg of our project has just kicked off and 6 of our team started with their education in August. They will be carefully monitored by scar and Hair Cares, and the training was carefully curated by Davines here in SA, especially for scar. Amber from Davines Education is heading up the course and we hope it is the first of many more to come. Well done to Andiswa, Lindiwe, Michelle, Busiseka, Tasneemha and Fatiema; through commitment and hard work they have been carefully elected as the 6 students. Hairnews congratulates Scar, with the support of Hair Cares Foundation and Davines, for this amazing initiative. Read the full article HERE You might also enjoy... - Theresa Advises: How the Change in Trend Predicting Has Changed our Business
September is always trend reveal time. With NYFW just over, all eyes are on fashion and hair for the upcoming season. Traditionally, and until recently, Wella Professionals worked with global trend agencies to predict rising megatrends ahead of the season. Wella’s global stylists would use the findings and interpret these into hair trends. This was key to building our seasonal colour business. But times have changed and the big fashion capitals such as New York, Milan and Paris no longer solely dictate fashion directions. Global communities on social media have become the big players and it is they who are creating the movements that influence the trends. Wella has embraced this modern movement and we no longer follow global megatrends; we have chosen instead to be instrumental in creating tools for stylists to intrepret global community movements by using their individuality as the core influence. With Wella, stylists don’t need to copy others, they are empowered to interpret or create their own trends, some lasting a few weeks and others a few seasons – whatever brings happiness! People, not agencies, are deciding what’s trendy and what works for them. Wella InstaVintage Movement Online conversations across all creative disciplines, including fashion, hair, décor and architectural design, have been about the new vintage movement – taking an old idea or thing and adding a modern twist to make it new. Stylists who fail to interpret this movement into hair will be left behind, and we don’t want that! We want our stylists to understand how to introduce, for example, a typical blonde, brunette or redhead to the new vintage movement. Enter the Wella InstaVintage Movement! Reinventing Blondes As we head into summer, our busiest season, there is a need to re-invent our blonde clients by bringing them up to speed with the new vintage movement. Understanding hair science may be the key to ensuring a successful blonding process but, it is social media that dictates the desired end result. Clients will have seen hair images posted online of soft, satin blondes or smoky, powdery blondes. In most instances, the images will have been filtered or retouched to suit the vintage movement. The good news is that with new Wella InstaVintage you will be able to create your own version of these vintage looks. Science will help you understand undertones and exposed pigment and, with the help of Wella InstaVintage shades you will be able to: Create comfortably lived-in blondes, never forced, always individual Deliver a smoky satin feel using reflective pockets of light on a naturalised blonde Transform a classic blonde by using combination tones in the Wella portfolio: a warm/cool shading will instantly reduce the clarity to create a satin end-look Introduce new shades by toning and glossing to create smokiness with specific colour choices: a strong blend between the natural colour and highly smoked ends gives a raw and modern finish Create captivating smoky finishes on blondes using new shades. NB: New Color Touch 7/89 is perfect for InstaVintage smokiness Create or interpret the new vintage movement with confidence with Wella InstaVintage Movement.
