  • How Spa Professionals Guild can Superpower your Salon Business

Q and A with Marisa Dimitriadis, founder of the Spa Professionals Guild. Q: Please explain what the “Spa Professionals Guild” is. Spa Professionals Guild is a Global ONLINE platform where business professionals in the spa, salon and aesthetic space come together to share best practices. We offer various courses and memberships from short modules focused on specific topics to longer Business Management Training Courses. Q: When, and why, did you start it up and how has it grown since then? As a business we have always offered these courses but have done so face to face in a classroom type environment. Covid Lockdown forced me to move our education online quicker than planned. I pushed a sudden launch in July since the demand and eager hunger to be supported and learn and grow was taking place during lockdown. I started doing FREE business support coaching sessions twice a week from the first week of lockdown where the audience just grew and grew, I was shocked at one of the sessions I had over 550 people logged on which really did show me that there was a market for this type of online education. We are now over 50 members from 15 different countries and growing weekly. Q: Please explain your background and your ethos and how this has helped form the Guild. I have been in the beauty and hair industry for over 20 years now. My experience ranges from sales, marketing, education to design, set up and operations of over 40 spas in the country and a few abroad. I also have two brands that I have launched into the market place, SIX for skincare and Spalicious for hands, feet and body. My passion is business and anything about business. I thrive on challenges and obstacles and look for ways and systems to overcome them and am relentless till I find solutions and ensure that the business is thriving. I suppose this passion is what inspired me to reach out to more people and around the world to share this passion and share best practices from around the world. Q: Can you give a case study of how your courses have created positive improvement in spa / salon businesses? We have only been doing courses officially from end of July – so basically two months, and one of our salons has reported an increase of 30% in their numbers from the when they started last month to now purely from implementing our systems and ensuring consistency. The same salon says they have never ever had a more connected, committed and inspired team than ever. Q: If you had to name THREE things that most spa / salon owners should do differently what would they be? • Implement checklists into their business • Staff huddle meetings • Daily business analysis Q: Can you please give some details on the course – how does it work, duration, how you study, cost? There are different membership or course options, all listed on our website www.spaprofessionalsguild.com but in summary our main course is a Business Management Training course which is 7 Modules, each module takes one month to complete. There are two group coaching sessions included plus a weekly business tips newsflash as well as access to the community on whatsapp group and private facebook group where all best practices shared and an unbelievable sense of community to help each other and share information and resources. The Modules include a huge amount of resources and templates that most business owners don’t have. The cost per month is 99 USD so around R1800 which for the content you receive is a very small investment. Q: If people are keen to find out more, how do they get in touch with you? They can email me directly on marisa@thespaconsultants.co.za or go check out the site. I can also easily be reached on my mobile 083 626 8382. Q: Finally, if you would like to say anything else that has not been covered in the above questions, please do! I just want to say that our Industry around the world NEEDS this type of training. most professionals going into business in a salon or spa are not business people they are therapists, hairstylists or entrepenuers and this type of training gives a holistic look at all aspects of running a beauty or spa business. Keen to find out more? Email marisa@thespaconsultants.co.za Call / message 083 626 8382 Or go to www.spaprofessionalsguild.com

  • Tangle Teezer's The Power's in the Teeth Hairstyle Collection

Our latest campaign, The Power’s in the Teeth, shines a light on the innovative patented teeth on every single Tangle Teezer hairbrush and tool – which can’t be found on any other hairbrush in the world. To celebrate this, we’ve created a collection of looks that uses our whole range, and can act as inspiration for your clients. Look 1: The Hero Look The hero look in our The Power’s in the Teeth collection is a timeless and classic style with a modern twist. Inspired by the big and bouncy voluminous blow-dries of the Sixties (think Brigitte Bardot), it’s suitable for all hair lengths, offers height and volume at the crown, a dishevelled but stylised wave and plenty movement. We’ve used a simple hair band to elevate the look but it looks great worn loose too. Create it with: The Wet Detangler Blow-Styling Round Tool (Large) Back-Combing Hairbrush The Ultimate Finisher • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Look 2: The High Ponytail A refreshing take on a simple style, our high ponytail offers subtle volume at the front for softness complemented by loose tendrils of hair around the hairline and a dishevelled wave through the pony. We’ve covered the band at the base for a seamless finish and you can add even more lift into your ponytail using our Back-Combing Hairbrush. Create it with: The Wet Detangler Blow-Styling Round Tool (Large) Back-Combing Hairbrush The Ultimate Finisher • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Look 3: Mid-Length Movement Mid-length hair is still such a trend for 2020 and is a most-requested look by salon clients, so we had to include it in our Power’s in the Teeth collection. Inspired by mid-length hair that really moves, we’ve created natural volume and movement by setting the hair in loose large pin curls after blow-drying and choosing a relaxed parting for a natural, effortless result. Create it with: Salon Elite Blow-Styling Round Tool (Large) The Ultimate Finisher • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Look 4: Contemporary Glamour A contemporary take on vintage glamour, we looked to Forties-esque styles with natural volume and smooth defined waves for inspiration. We blow-dried the hair and set it into structured pin curls around a dramatic deep side parting (adjust according to your client’s preference) to create soft, feminine, modern waves which are smooth through the top with movement beginning between the cheekbone and the chin. Create it with: Salon Elite Blow-Styling Round Tool (Small) The Ultimate Finisher • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Look 5: The Classic Bob A great bob never falls out of style and maintains its status as a significant hair trend. For our Power’s in the Teeth collection we wanted to create a bob with a smooth and shiny finish with defined ends created by the Smoothing Tool. Depending on your client, this can be interpreted to achieve blunter, more textured ends or a smoother, rounder shape. Create it with: Salon Elite Blow-Styling Round Tool (Small) The Ultimate Finisher • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Look 6: The Quirky Quiff Inspired by catwalk trends adapted to create an achievable and wearable result, this look can be worn on bobbed or mid-length hair, offering clients with these hair lengths more choice. We’ve created a smooth, shiny and defined look, and the key to achieving this is to ensure you use even sections when back-combing through the top of the hair. Create it with: Salon Elite Blow-Styling Round Tool (Small) Back-Combing Hairbrush The Ultimate Finisher These are the brushes to create these looks. Watch the video below to discover more about them. Tangle Teezer is proudly distributed by Haircair. Contact Haircair on Tel: +27 21 448 8847 Email: info@haircair.co.za www.haircair.co.za

Wembley Square is a trendy center which has a very popular Virgin Active Gym, Vida E Café, Kead, Ben Wei Restaurant, a large residential complex and the Amazon Head Quarters to mention a few! The center has underground parking and some on-street parking. The setup allows you to run your own business without the hassle of running an entire salon - you just get to focus on what you love! Our existing stylists are made up predominantly of previous salon owners who have made far more money spending less time working, with far less admin and stress. Others have moved from a commission setup where they get to keep more of their turnover. Ideal candidates for this workstation: • A stylist who is working in the town area and looking to be their own boss and move away from the commission-based earnings with a client base that will follow them. This would make financial sense should your turnover be R25 000 and more. • Existing Salon Owner – Someone who is looking to close their salon and transition to a more lucrative and admin light working environment. Ideally from the same area as Town so as to retain their client base. The salon has an inverter so when Eskom lets us down, the lights still stay on! For the right candidate we are willing to assist with setup costs. Contact Sharon on 082 851 2002. Facebook | Instagram • • • • • • • • • Cape Reds New Greenpoint, Cape Town Reds hair design is a well established salon in Greenpoint with good reputation for its standard of work. The salon is bright and spacious with friendly staff. There is ample free parking very close to salon. I am looking for and established trendy stylist who would like to rent a chair in my salon. Rental is negotiable. Call me in confidence on my cell no 083 680 6944 • • • • • • • • • A Note about the Legalities of Chair Rental Chair rental is the equivalent of running your own “business within a business” independently within a salon. Registration and Compliance It is very important that all chair rentals comply with the correct industry legislation and that they are properly registered and up to date with the basic Bargaining Council fees as stipulated. This ensures that every business operating from the premises is compliant and correctly registered, providing peace of mind for all parties as well as clients! Please contact the Bargaining Council for any assistance in this regard. www.hcsbc.co.za Contracts and Agreements A chair rental agreement is only as good as the contract that governs it! A proper contract will protect all parties and ensure peace of mind and a harmonious working relationship. As part of the EOHCB membership, assistance with contracts is offered – please contact them for more info and assistance. www.eohcb.co.za Rental vs Employment There are many salons at this time offering two options: chair rental, or to be employed by the salon. If you prefer to work as an employee then please get in touch with the salon and discuss whether this is an option.

  • Incorporating Blue into Hair Colour by Steph Peckmore of Bad Apple Hair, UK

Steph Peckmore, Bad Apple Hair's award winning Colour Manager, explains how she incorporates the sought-after blue shade into hair colour this summer, in a way that clients will adore. Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2020 is Classic Blue – a shade reminiscent of the sky at dusk. Said to symbolize what’s coming next – the future, the unknown and a new decade. Blue is never an easy colour to incorporate into a style – while its roots lie in nature, there is nothing remotely natural about blue hair, and so any hint of blue colour in the hair will naturally come across as aesthetically artificial, and often quite jarring. For clients wanting to work this standout shade into their existing look, take inspiration from my Colour Codes collection (pictured) and weave the colour, in a muted form, into hair that has an existing cool tone to it. To create this look I worked a lovely aquamarine blue into a base that was already full of grey and ashen tones, and the result is a look that is surprisingly wearable and shows that when it comes to colour this season, the sky really is the limit.
