Steph Peckmore, Bad Apple Hair's award winning Colour Manager, explains how she incorporates the sought-after blue shade into hair colour this summer, in a way that clients will adore.

Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2020 is Classic Blue – a shade reminiscent of the sky at dusk. Said to symbolize what’s coming next – the future, the unknown and a new decade.

Blue is never an easy colour to incorporate into a style – while its roots lie in nature, there is nothing remotely natural about blue hair, and so any hint of blue colour in the hair will naturally come across as aesthetically artificial, and often quite jarring.

For clients wanting to work this standout shade into their existing look, take inspiration from my Colour Codes collection (pictured) and weave the colour, in a muted form, into hair that has an existing cool tone to it. To create this look I worked a lovely aquamarine blue into a base that was already full of grey and ashen tones, and the result is a look that is surprisingly wearable and shows that when it comes to colour this season, the sky really is the limit.
