- Styles: Elements by Ziccardi Fabio, Italy
Elements interprets Fabio Ziccardi's personal avant-garde vision of the four elements: water, fire, earth and air. Each look has been created thanks to a high-precision process, working with natural and non-synthetic hair, which when mixed with the fixative spray creates a crystallized effect. This is the inspiration for the shapes of the four fundamental elements of life. Water is the blue gold and, therefore, this look is inspired by the rivers that flow into the sea, hence the shades of white and light blue foam. Fire symbolizes energy and passion. It starts from the underworld of the earth and then explodes in a magma of colours. Earth means our roots and this hairstyle welcomes the same colours that nature offers us. Finally, air is volume, but has no colour. To represent its purity, we use white infused in its transparencies. - Styles: Antropomorfia by Manuel Mon, Spain
Antropomorfia is a creative, organic, corporeal and human journey. The hair, pure white, is made up of biological forms, expressing internal qualities on the outside, taking on a life on its own. Textures and shapes are conceptualized as human; fabrics and body structures are expressed in natural hair with readapted techniques. The skulls are highlighted with somatic, living forms, full of purity, in contrast to the sanguine red of the garments. - EOHCB: Incapacity Due to Ill Health / Injury
Section 188 of the Labour Relations Act 66 of 1995 (LRA) states that a dismissal is automatically unfair if the employer fails to prove- (a) that the reason for dismissal is a fair reason- (i) related to the employee's conduct or capacity; or (ii) based on the employer's operational requirements; and (b) that the dismissal was affected in accordance with a fair procedure In respect of substantive fairness, therefore, a valid reason or ground for the termination of an employee’s employment must always exist. Incapacity arising from ill-health or injury is recognised as a valid reason to terminate the employment relationship if items 10 and 11 of the Code of Good Practice are adhered to. Schedule 8 to the LRA Code of Good Practice in relation to dismissal. Items 10 and 11 of the schedules: 10: Incapacity: ill-health or injury (1) Incapacity on the grounds of ill health or injury may be temporary or permanent. If an employee is temporarily unable to work in these circumstances, the employer should investigate the extent of the incapacity or the injury. If the employee is likely to be absent for a time that is unreasonably long in the circumstances, the employer should investigate all the possible alternatives short of dismissal. When alternatives are considered, relevant factors might include the nature of the job, the period of absence, the seriousness of the illness or injury and the possibility of securing a temporary replacement for the ill or injured employee. In cases of permanent incapacity, the employer should ascertain the possibility of securing alternative employment or adapting the duties or work circumstances of the employee to accommodate the employee's disability. (2) In the process of the investigation referred to in subsection (1) the employee should be allowed the opportunity to state a case in response and to be assisted by a trade union representative or fellow employee. (3) The degree of incapacity is relevant to the fairness of any dismissal. The cause of the incapacity may also be relevant. In the case of certain kinds of incapacity, for example alcoholism or drug abuse, counselling and rehabilitation may be appropriate steps for an employer to consider. (4) Particular consideration should be given to employees who are injured at work or who are incapacitated by work-related illness. The courts have indicated that the duty on the employer to accommodate the incapacity of the employee is more onerous in these circumstances. 11: Guidelines in cases of dismissal arising from ill-health or injury Any person determining whether a dismissal arising from ill health or injury is unfair should consider: (a) whether or not the employee is capable of performing the work; and (b) if the employee is not capable: (i) the extent to which the employee is able to perform the work; (ii) the extent to which the employee's work circumstances might be adapted to accommodate disability, or, where this is not possible, the extent to which the employee's duties might be adapted; and (iii) the availability of any suitable alternative work". The nature of Incapacity: • Is the incapacity temporary or permanent? • Is the incapacity/injury work-related? • Absenteeism due to illness/injury. • Is the incapacity/injury a result of an addiction to drugs or alcohol? • Relevant medical information. Procedural and Substantive Requirements: 1. Procedural Requirements 1.1 The employee should be notified in writing that an incapacity enquiry will be held. 1.2 The employee should receive the notice before the enquiry to ensure that the employee has reasonable time to prepare for the enquiry. 2. Substantive Requirements When determining whether a dismissal due to ill health/injury is fair the following should be considered: 2.1 If the employee is capable of performing their duties, if not; 2.2 The extent to which the employee is capable of performing their duties; 2.3 The availability of suitable alternative work. 2.4 Is it possible to adapt the employees working condition/ duties to accommodate the illness or disability? Employment Equity Act No 55 of 1998 The Employment Equity Act No 55 of 1998 code of good practice should be considered when dealing with incapacity enquiries to ensure that no one unfairly discriminate against a person on the grounds of disability. An Employer must undertake an incapacity enquiry to where the employee’s capacity and capability must be properly assessed before a conclusion as to the capability to perform their duties can be made. A dismissal due to an employee being permanently incapacitated may be fair provided that the procedural and substantive requirements was met, a proper investigation into the incapacity took place and other alternative to dismissal was considered. - Explore the World While Working Onboard a Cruise Ship: Mervin Arthur Naidoo Interview Part 2
In July we featured the first of a two part interview with Mervin Arthur Naidoo on his cruise ship experiences. Click HERE to read Part 1 Last time, Mervin told us all about the excitement and adventure of living and working on a cruise ship. This time, he really gets down to the details of how shipboard contracts will pay off for you as a stylist! What are the benefits of a cruise ship contract? As a hairstylist who lives his job and loves to work, I am able to work to my fullest capabilities on board the cruise ship. We have a fully stocked salon with excellent products to retail and topline colour to use. I get to meet people from all over the world everyday, with the traveling guests and the crew representing up to 51 different nationalities working on board. In the spa alone we have 5 different nationalities working together. I get to enjoy a wide variety of freshly prepared food every day, both in the crew food hall and a variety of restaurants onboard, with delicacies from all over the world. I get to visit different parts of the world, with some places only accessible by ship. For example, at the moment we are cruising in Alaska. We go to see the different glaciers each week and we travel through the Inside Passage which is so beautiful to see. No planes can fly there or land there - only with a ship or boat can one get there up close to these natural creations. On my days off in port, I make it a point to enjoy the local cuisine, and chat with the local people, learn their history and see the many different crafts that they produce. It's always such a pleasure to be able to do all this, and then go to work and hear the adventures of our guests. If you are a people's person like me then it’s easier to understand how much pleasure I get from talking to others and using my knowledge to do my job at the same time! What qualifications are needed and what training do you receive? You will need to be 21 years or older, and a qualified hairstylist with at least 2 years’ experience and must be able to do all aspects of hair, with experience in all hair types a great help because we deal with all types on the cruise ship, mens, ladies and kids. When you are selected, you will be given extra training on all aspects of your job. As a hairstylist I got trained on all the retail products sold on board, and we also get training on men's barbering and shaves which are a popular service on board! Even teeth whitening is popular! We get extensive training on retailing and also how to manage your own revenue. Once on board the training will continue, with Managers providing extra training in whichever aspect you need. All the training and support is there to help you make the most money for yourself. What is a typical day at work like? We start work at 7.30am with a meeting. Our first client is in at 8am and we work till 9.30pm. We have an hour each for lunch and dinner. We have 2 half days off which are always at a port, so that way you can go out and be a tourist too. We also get incentive hours which we can use at the ports. How does it differ from a land based salon? We offer all the same services that are offered on land, so there is no difference when it comes to work. Each week we get a new lot of guests from all over the world, so we don't have to stress to make them our regulars. We don't have to go looking for clients as they come to you, every day. What are your average earnings? Earnings are based on how much you can do in services and retail. We get incentive hours for reaching our targets and promotions. The more you do, the more you get paid. We also get 18% automatic gratuity which is added to the bill. Guests can also give you tips either to add onto the bill or in cash. All tip money is yours. Is the experience valuable for future career options? The experience of working and travelling at the same time is amazing. Dealing with different personalities and different hair types, plus learning all the extra jobs as well as safety training for all types of fires and hazards….all will help you to run a very successful business on land as a salon owner, manager and as a stylist! You can train to become an assistant manager or a manager, or can become an educator and trainer for the academy. There are many options and directions for growth in the company. An onboard contract looks really impressive on your C.V. and can guarantee employment in any prestigious salon in the world. Plus there are s hundreds of ships sailing all over the world, which means you can work on any ship, anywhere in the world and see the world as you work. - Styles: Natura Bridal by Llata Carrera, Spain
Nature acts as the focal point of the collection, drawing a line between the bucolic setting and the naturalness that we have sought in our models, pursuing our goal of showing that a bride has to show herself as she is on one of the most important days of her life. The different textures and hairstyles do not, but rather enhance the essence of each bride, giving it a form full of beauty and authenticity. The luminosity of the waves coexists in a balanced way with jewel accessories, updos are a luxury in the hair and the whole set reminds us of a deified femininity.
