  • Creating A Set of Budgets with My Salon Software

Most businesses see 'budgeting' as a way of: Projecting turnover Controlling costs Creating profit Not all business systems make it easy to create a set of budgets. In Advanced Reports there is section called Income Statement which has 4 tabs. The first 3 tabs are actively generating your income statement as you trade. The 4th tab, Budget, is where you can set your budgeted expenses for the month. At the beginning of the month simply enter all your anticipated costs for the month, item by item, using the expenditure input function. Once completed you will see the total Budgeted (anticipated) cost of running your business including the crucial Break-Even Point . This is the point you turnover is higher than your overheads and you enter the Potential Profit Zone . Every day you will be able to see your progress as you capture your turnover, split between Retail and Services AND your stock purchases, split between Retail and Professional stock as well as your budgeted overheads, using the Preview button. THREESIXFIVE Hair & Beauty Information Hub will be conducting TWO 90 minute WEBINARS on TEAMS on the budgeting process for anyone who is interested, whether they are current MySalonSoftware users, or not. DATE: Monday 03 February & Tuesday 04 February TIME: 09:30 11:00 PLACE: TEAMS COST: No charge To reserve your place: Email sune@mysalonsoftware.co.za or info@mysalonsoftware.co.za MySalon Software: Email:   terry@mysalonsoftware.co.za   | Tel:  083 650 0952 Email:   sune@mysalonsoftware.co.za   | Tel:  083 484 2960 Visit us on:   www.mysalonsoftwareint.co.za

  • Depot® The Male Tools & Co: Celebrating the Heroes of Barbering - Łukasz Janik

With  BARBERS’ STORIES  we want to celebrate our  heroes . Men  who are visionaries, artists,  barbers  who have revolutionised an ancient craft. A small European tour, north to south, meeting them on the way so that we can tell you their stories. The journey begins. KRAKóW Poland Legend has it that Kraków was founded by defeating a dragon, and it is a city that oozes magic in its medieval streets and squares, in its ancient university on the banks of the Vistula River and the Kazimierz, the historical district where the Jewish and Christian communities have coexisted for centuries. Nowadays, between museums and synagogues, old buildings, and small stores, this district is brimming with life. The lively atmosphere is fueled by the numerous cafés, restaurants, and clubs making it one of the most vibrant places in the city. The mythical history of this UNESCO World Heritage Site merges with some grey remnants of Real Socialism and the modernity of an increasingly growing economy, thus giving rise to a unique setting. Trams and trains of the latest generations, an extended network of cycle paths, and sought-after but fair-priced hotels and restaurants ensure comfortable and affordable stay for all visitors. Leaving the city, get ready to be dazzled by majestic nature filled with lakes, remote countryside areas, mountains, and forests, and two must-see places from 20thcentury history: Schindler's factory (now an interactive museum), the man who saved hundreds of Jews, celebrated in Steven Spielberg's film and Nowa Huta, an experiment of the ideal city in socialist architecture built from scratch in the 1950s next to the country's largest steelworks, where you can still drive a pastel-colored Trabant, visit one of the few remaining milk bars and voyage into a time that no longer exists. [BARBER] Łukasz Janik @LUCKYBARBERR Meeting Łukasz, our Polish barber, was a special surprise. Łukasz embodies the essence of the barber, not in a technical but in a human perspective. Besides the remarkable specific skills what management jargon calls 'hard skills' - Łukasz revealed a unique combination of 'soft skills' or transversal competences, which are becoming more and more in demand in business and which distinguish barbers prominently: authority, calmness, but also listening and communication skills, emotional expression, creativity, kindness, a desire for a job well done instead of the more barren sense of duty - and, last but not least, the desire to laugh about it and glide over things', as Italo Calvino defines lightness. • ThreeSixFive Hair & Beauty Hub: When You Fail to Plan, You Plan to Fail

Not only is budgeting an honest look at what you can or cannot afford in your business, it is also the only way to guarantee your business makes a profit. And if you needed another reason, budgeting allows you to explore your business's potential e.g. IF you attracted more clients, IF you brought in an additional product range, IF you recruited another staff member.... This is called ' IMAGINEERING ' - Building your business via your experience and imagination. Step 1: Creating a set of budgets Calculate how much it costs you to run your business each month. Fixed costs such as rent, insurance, management fees will be easier to calculate and variable costs, such as salaries and stock etc should be estimated and linked to your turnover projections. Add another 5% for repairs and maintenance and that will give you a pretty good idea where your break-even-point is. The moment your turnover equals your overheads, technically, you enter into the area of potential profit. Step 2: Staff and sales plan. If you are just starting your business you should be guided by your break-even-point in terms of estimated how you are going to achieve your turnover goals. It is not unusual to take anything between 3 and 12 months to achieve break-even-point therefore it is crucially important to stick to the budgeted expenses to avoid unnecessarily throwing money at your business. If you have been in business for a few years it is easier to plan to grow your turnover bearing in mind that each year, your costs increase therefore your prices need to increase. This is more of a challenge if less that 80% of our your clients are not regular, money-in-the-bank clients. You might want to read our 'Loyalty Programme' blog ( www.mysalonsoftwareint.co.za ). Step 3: Variation from Budget Budgets are meant to be flexible. If circumstances change in your business e.g. You acquire a new staff member or somebody leaves, or you introduce a new service or retail products, check carefully if and how this is going to impact your budget (cost - return - analysis). Maybe you need to increase your advertising and marketing spend, or, if business is quieter than you would like you might have to do conduct short-term promotions or increase your social media activity. Be very aware if and how much these activities affect you turnover, after all, the reason for budgeting is to protect the profit line and not to just throw more money at your business. • EOHCB: Managing Staff Wellness and Handling Negative Reviews on Social Media

Managing staff wellness and handling negative reviews on social media are crucial aspects of maintaining a positive work environment and brand reputation. Here are some effective strategies: 1.     Acknowledge Promptly:  When negative comments arise, respond quickly and professionally. Show that you value customer feedback and are committed to addressing concerns. Use a standardised response template for common issues to speed up your response time while ensuring consistency. Personalise the response as needed. 2.     Distinguish Constructive Criticism:  Differentiate between genuine feedback and trolling. Address valid concerns constructively while ignoring malicious comments. Implement a system to categorise feedback based on its nature (constructive, neutral, or trolling) and prioritise responses accordingly. 3.     Private Resolution:  Offer to move the conversation to a private channel. This personalised approach demonstrates empathy and commitment to customer satisfaction. Provide clear instructions on how to contact customer service privately. For example, offer an email address or a direct messaging option on social media platforms. 4.     Learn and Adapt:  Utilise negative feedback for continuous improvement. Understand areas for growth and adapt services or products accordingly. Regularly review negative feedback trends and use data analytics to identify recurring issues. Share insights with relevant teams for actionable changes. 5.     Maintain a Positive Tone:  Respond professionally, even in challenging situations. A positive presence online reinforces trust and customer loyalty. Train your social media team in emotional intelligence and conflict resolution techniques to handle tough interactions with professionalism and empathy. Boosting employee morale after negative feedback is essential for maintaining a positive work environment. Here are some effective strategies: Measure Employee Morale Regularly:  Regularly assess employee morale through surveys or open conversations. Understand their concerns and feelings. Use various methods such as anonymous surveys, suggestion boxes, and one-on-one meetings to get a holistic view of employee sentiments. Understand What Employees Consider Meaningful:  Recognise individual preferences and values. Align tasks and responsibilities with what employees find fulfilling. Conduct individual development discussions to align employees’ personal values and career goals with organisational objectives. Provide Proper Tools and Stay Up-to-Date:  Ensure employees have the necessary tools and resources to perform their jobs effectively. Stay informed about new tools and technologies. Regularly review and update technology and training resources. Encourage feedback on tools and provide upgrades or alternatives as needed. Strengthen and Coach Managers:  Invest in manager training to improve leadership skills. Supportive managers positively impact morale. Implement a mentorship program where experienced leaders guide new managers. Provide managers with ongoing training in areas like conflict resolution and team motivation. Create a Growth Plan with Employees:  Discuss career development and growth opportunities. Help employees set goals and provide pathways for advancement. Include both short-term and long-term goals in the growth plan. Regularly review progress and adjust plans as needed to keep employees engaged. Balance Independence and Accountability:  Empower employees to make decisions and take ownership of their work. Balance autonomy with clear expectations. Establish clear metrics for performance and provide regular feedback. Allow employees to set their own objectives within the framework of team goals. Recognise and Reward Employees:  Celebrate achievements, both big and small. Recognition and rewards boost motivation and morale. Create a structured recognition program with various types of rewards (monetary, non-monetary, public acknowledgment) to cater to different preferences. A supportive and empathetic approach can significantly enhance employee morale and overall job satisfaction and by handling negative reviews skillfully it can turn challenges into opportunities for growth and deeper insights into refining your social media strategy.
