Style Inspiration: IT Girl 2 by Mikelah-Jayde Riley, Australia

Sex and Beauty Teases into new Salon Looks

Sexiness is all in the eye of the beholder. I think it should be. Absolutely. My sex appeal, whatever it might be, isn’t obvious… at least to me. Sharon Tate.

Fun and flirty hairstyles - Mikelah-Jayde Riley’s new collection called IT Girl explores the evolution of sex and beauty.

“The IT Girl collection reflects the ‘girl next door’ appeal that was Playboy’s underpinning criteria for models in its heyday,” Mikelah said.

Following on from that, hairstyles are inspired by major 20th Century female sex symbols, promoters of the Sexual Revolution, reinventing their allure and coquettishness typical of the era.

“The hairstyles draw from famous looks worn by Marilyn Monroe, Farah Fawcett, Pamela Anderson, Anna Nicole Smith, Sharon Tate, Madonna, Christie Brinkley, Elizabeth Taylor and Bridget Bardot,” Mikelah said. “These are the girls on my moodboards.”

“My biggest question was ‘how did we reach the sexiness of today?’.

“My chosen sex symbols from the ‘50s to the ‘90s were different from influencers and female idols of today who a more sexually assertive and confident, so what was different back then?’

Mikelah said that back in the day, many styles were created with roller sets and hairspray but today there are so many more tools to hand that evolve these looks into more current, salon-friendly fashion.

“This collection adds contemporary colour, volume and texture continuing the fun and flirty mood,” she said.

“I’ve devised this collection by studying the looks that are currently trending on social media and they are all coming back, but for some they never really left, although I put my own interpretation on them.”
