How good is your sense of listening, not hearing but actually listening?
For example, many people base their diet and lifestyle by listening to their bodies. Most people listen to their conscious (value system) when making a decision regarding right and wrong. In fact, we 'listen' all the time to our cars telling us we're great drivers and how cool we look in our designer sunglasses.
And, of course, clients listen for compliments and admiration for the cuts and styles you create for them every time they have their hair done that reassures them that they are dressed for success?
What we are really hearing is a vibration of energy that tells us these things.
So when was the last time you listened to what your salon can tell you?
Here's an exercise you might want to try.
At the end of the day when you've turned off the lights and about to leave the salon, STOP.
Turn the lights back on, make yourself a last cup of coffee, slowly look around your salon and visualise your salon as seen through the eyes of both clients and staff - and listen!
Are you satisfied with the quality of the coffee you offer to your clients (the one you're drinking right now),
Are you happy with the salon décor, considering your staff have to come to work every day and work in a creative environment?
Does your salon décor provide the safe, relaxing, or elegant atmosphere your clients desire?
Are the magazines current or do clients have to page through the same old magazines every time they come to the salon?
Does your retail display invite clients to buy?
Does the toilet seat need fixing? (I get this one all the time)
If you are listening, then make a list of all the things your salon tells you that needs attending to - all the things you can't see when your salon is filled with other people's energy.
This exercise allows you to tune in to the energy in your salon and gives your salon a voice!
All you have to do is listen.
