Global Citizen Mandela 100
The past weekend the Motsepe- together with the Mandela Foundation and Global Citizen hosted a gala dinner, fashion show, and concert to celebrate the life of Mandela and to bring attention to a cause that bid the world’s most influential leaders and celebrities to South Africa.
The cause: ending extreme poverty by 2030.
On Sunday, the world watched as thousands drew together at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg to attend the Mandela 100 concert and to call on world leaders to pledge their commitment to working together for a changed world.
A Show to Remember

Modern Hair & Beauty had the privilege to ask a group of hairdressers to style the models’ hair for the fashion show. The runway boasted of Africa’s most talented designers whose creations graced AFI Jo’burg Fashion Week earlier in October. The hairstyles - keyed by owner of Hair at the Hub, and stylist, Anita Baatjies - merged the creative vision of the designers with the mastery of the hairdressing team.

The showstopper for the evening - unsurprisingly - accompanied David Thale’s designs down the runway; a knotted afro - created entirely onsite.

The Concert
Performing at the Global Citizen Mandela 100 concert were performers such as Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Pharrell Williams, Ed Sheeran, and Cassper Nyovest.
In the audience were the recipients of Coty sponsored tickets; two weeks ago, Modern Hair & Beauty asked the industry to share their stories of how they are changing their world.
Each recipient shared about their involvement in community projects such as Restorative Justice which serves prisons; Education for Life which serves Christel House in Cape Town; and environmentally friendly hair mats which helps save the environment.
Once again, Anita Baatjies styled influential guest speakers before they were called onto stage; most notably wife of the late Mandela, Graҫa Machel.
