- Meet The Oldest Barber in the Bokaap at Tonsorial Hair Design
While down in Cape Town, Hairnews had the privilege of meeting the oldest barber in the Bokaap, working at the famous Tonsorial Hair Design in Wale Street. Yusuf is 71 years old – although he looks much younger – and has a lifetime of experience as he started barbering when he was just 14. He loves barbering, considers it to be therapy and his calling, and works a full Saturday in the salon, keeping up with the other hairstylists client for client, even though he is more than twice their age. As well as an older clientele who have been with him for decades, Yusuf also has a young clientele, and has styled generations of clients in the dedicated barbering section at Tonsorial Hair Design, the fabulous, Paul Mitchell signature salon where he is based. Congratulations, Yusuf! Here’s to many more years of career fulfilment and making clients happy. Watch Tonsorial Hair Design’s salon decor tour HERE You might also enjoy... - Milkshake Moisture Plus Range Adds Moisture Plus Lotion
If your clients are looking for perfectly moisturized hair that glows with health, milk_shake’s Moisture Plus range is what they need. This effective range has now added a brand new product: Moisture Plus Lotion. Formulated for dry hair, this hydrating lotion is concentrated, giving softness and manageability to dry hair, while maintaining the hair’s optimal moisture balance. It leaves hair visibly healthy, soft and shiny thanks to the effective blend of ingredients. These include organic papaya extract, Integrity 41® and hyaluronic acid for colour protection, with an anti-aging action. How to Use Moisture Plus Lotion is designed to leave in the hair for 3-5 minutes or for particularly damaged hair, you can cover and leave under a heat source for 5-10 minutes. Rinse and proceed with the desired styling. Here’s more on the key ingredients: Organic Papaya Extract: Rich in precious nutrients that treat the scalp and hair, papaya contains many vitamins as well as antioxidants to give the appearance of eternal youth to dry and weak hair. Organic papaya extract leaves hair shinier and healthier. Hyaluronic Acid: This “super-hydrating” ingredient balances the level of hydration in the hair. The hyaluronic acid in milk_shake moisture plus is a mix of three molecular weights: -low -medium –high. This allows it to penetrate each layer of the hair fiber for greater hydration and softness. A modified component of hyaluronic acid with a film-forming action is also included, to prolong the hydrating action over time. Integrity 41: This registered active ingredient is included especially to protect hair color, preventing fading, and increasing manageability and shine in the hair. If your clients would love this incredible range, contact milk_shake for more information, pricing and to order! - Slick Salon Solutions: Business Seminar Ahead & Special Coupon Offer
SLICK COMMUNITY - 2019 has challenged all business owners to be more vigilant and forward thinking as we find ourselves facing some tough realities in the Economy. As the saying goes, however; there’s always a silver lining… Despite the current testing economic climate, when we look for them, there are also lots of OPPORTUNITIES. The question is whether we, as business owners, are open to change and if we are able, willing and agile enough to adapt our strategy to make sure we not only remain in business but can even take advantage and take our companies further ahead…? In 2019, the message from SLICK SALON SOLUTIONS business to our partners has been all about embracing “Value Creation”. SLICK DICTIONARY: Value Creation - “Creating impact on our Business and making them more profitable by understanding what we have today , and what we can do with limited investment to make them sustainable for 3-5 years to come “. Traditionally, most of us tend to look at contracts and suppliers and, all too often, resort to using words like – “Discount”, “Consignment”. This philosophy, however, does not create sustainable value and profitability in any business. We also find that our Income Potential doesn’t grow and so we reach a point of our career where we educate our customers on Discount and not on our “SKILL LEVEL” we have rather. And so, time has come to ask ourselves some harsh questions: • Will this thinking help to increase sales while also growing our bottom line? • Will it help us attract new clients and bring new bums into seats? • Will our current thinking help us bring existing clients back more frequently? • Do we cater for all people in our doors? • Retail income boosts turnover, but do we have enough retail variety in our retail environments? • Have we looked at our Renumeration offerings to change the impact of Non-Performing Assets? If you answered “NO” to more than 3 of these, chances are you’re leaving a healthy chunk of money on the table! At Slick Salon Solutions, we have used 2019 as an opportunity to, together with our business coaches, ask salon owners the following pertinent questions: • How (if at all…) are we changing the way we market our business in these challenging economic times…? • What “acquisition hooks” (if any…) are we offering to attract new clients via social media? Or are we just “BOOSTING” with a view to grow the number of likes…? (which is great for the ego but, unless we know what to do with it, doesn’t help our businesses an awful lot). • Are we knowledgeable of our own business and do we truly understand our breakeven so that we make sure we trade profitably that we don’t keep eating into the bottom line profit and cause cashflow problems further down the line? And if we are not knowledgeable enough, what do we intend to do about it…? At our 1st Slick Community Business event we touched on this, and at our 2nd event, we will go into detail on Social Media, Business Analysis, Value Creation. Make sure you like our pages: Facebook | Instagram One lucky “SLICK COMMUNITY” member will win a ticket for the event. Date to be released soon . So like our pages and watch out for details. Astrologist Zema predicts your stars for September. For a full personalised reading, you can contact her on 083 430 1456. VIRGO 23 AUG – 22 SEP Your attention to somebody is getting just a little too much for the person you are focused on. No matter how much you are in love, obsessed, whatever - Take a Step Back! Or would you like to end up in jail instead for harassment? Slow down! If you are offered a job by someone you know, go carefully as all is not as it seems … Do some strong investigating - once you know, you will be able to decide what to do. LIBRA 23 SEPT – OCT 22 For some strange reason, people seem to like you a lot! Your Gift(?) of paying attention to detail could slow you down to zero which could end up driving people insane. (Run Everybody! Run!) Come on Lib, its time you took the path you have been considering for so long - the trick is to GET GOING and put away all doubts and questions … It appears that whatever is coming, Job OR love life OR both, you’ll be The Hero. Wow! SCORPIO 23 OCT – 21 NOV Do yourself a favour Scorp - pay attention to your love life and stop thinking of yourself for a change. Your charm is irresistible at the best of times, but playing games with people usually doesn’t go down well as, sooner or later you could be caught out. You’ve got something to do that you have been thinking of for a long time - TOO long! Don’t you think it’s time to tackle it? You’ve got the brains, believe it not, so get on with it. SAGITTARIUS 22 NOV – 21 DEC You’re very good at travelling Sag! Whether its job, holiday, love life, you’re good at it. Just don’t get carried away and expect people to bow before you because you are so smooth … Sooner or later you will come across The Person who will enchant you beyond description and you’ll wonder what has hit you at last! You’ll be Smitten and wonder why you wasted so much time being the Ever-So-Smooth Clown. Smile, don’t grin! CAPRICORN 21 DEC – JAN 20 Amazing, Cap! There’s something spiritual waiting for you to discover. For a long time you’ve been considering some spiritual improvement in your life (gasp!) but you have been putting it off for some or other reason. It’s about to come to you and you are going to be amazed at the difference it will make in everything in your life. Even The One that you have had your eye on forever will look at you with new eyes … Wow! AQUARIUS 20 JAN – 18 FEB Time to go with the flow, Aqua … We all know how difficult this can be for you, but in this case you need to keep calm and walk away from people who annoy you and climb a tree or something to calm down. You’ve got to reach the point where you realize that you can’t force people to agree with you, especially on matters of money. If someone wants to borrow from you, think carefully. You are greatly loved, Aqua! PISCES 19 FEB – 20 MARCH Pisky! We’re all waiting for that fabulous money-making idea that you’ve been hanging onto for too long. Eventually people are going to start using sharp instruments against you or walking away from you never to be seen again. There’s something you keep missing, or maybe you’ve got to understand that you are greatly loved. So? ACT like it! Like now. Plenty of people will wake up and support you. Get the brain going. ARIES 21 MARCH – 19 APRIL You know by now that there is nothing you cannot achieve if you put your mind to it, so carry on and on until you get what you want. Aries is very seldom a giver-upper. You’ll probably realize that your idea is the best ever, but don’t drag on like this. You do very well with people, so that’s a good start. Money is the Magic Word. So is Love, so if you combine the two, you should do very well. We’re ALL waiting! TAURUS 20 APRIL – 20 MAY If you haven’t started making the money that is in your stars yet, perhaps it’s time to let go a bit and spend some time off … Easier said than done with a Taurus, but we all know what a good family person you are, so how about you look in the mirror and say the Magic Words: Time For Family and Friends. Should clear the brain a bit - just judge the right time to get back to work if you start having violent thoughts and itchy fingers. GEMINI 21 MAY - 20 JUNE The most interesting thing about Gem is that you can always see both sides of the story which is very good and all, but it can delay decisions that need to be made at a speed. Use the brain … Love life looks good, just keep your temper. You are loved beyond anything you can imagine, so how about you returning this? Constantly! Try hard not to joke your way through everything and give your true love the True Love! CANCER 21 JUNE - 21 JULY Money looks good for a change, Cancer. You’re doing a lot better than what you think, but do use the brain if you want to keep it that way. Family matters need a bit of attention, so perhaps slow down and THINK for a change before you rush off and annoy people. You seem to have a new start very soon and you will be amazed at how it improves your attitude to everything, so stop complaining and get on with it. Like now. LEO 22 JULY - 22 AUG Righto Leo! Have you started those plans yet? You’ve made plenty of them but carrying them out is another story. You may be so excited by something that has occurred to you that you just can’t get your brain (?) straight. There is somebody who can truly help you if you allow him/her to. Find a special place in your heart where you can work things out. The Universe is watching you. Get on with it!
