The Story
Shift Hair & Beauty was founded in 2019 by Shaun Wiegand, who is no newcomer to our industry. He describes his story and the journey to 2022.
Starting as a sales rep for a leading brand back in 1997, at 21 years of age, and not knowing exactly what career path to take, Shaun had a chance interview with Schwarzkopf and accepted the job, only to be thrown in the deep end with his area list in one hand and a map book in the other – yes, an old map book! With sample products to show-and-tell, he took off to conquer the world and was instantly drawn to the amazing people in the industry.
When asked what he loves most about our industry, his answer is simple:
“The people. I do what I do because of the people I meet and get to engage with on a daily basis whilst building wonderful relationships in the process. It’s not about selling a shampoo or a tint, it's about being a day-maker! Everyday is different and every conversation is a new experience.”
Shaun took some time out for a few years on a personal journey and re-entered the industry in 2019, with his foot firmly on the 'start' line again.
“When you find your passion, there you will find fulfilment”.
Falling back in love with all that the industry and people have to offer, he started the journey of reinventing himself, and founded SHIFT HOLDINGS. The emphasis being on SHIFT.
The idea behind this was to change the way you look at things:
“Shift your thoughts, Shift your Focus and you will Shift your life”.
72 HAIR SMOOTHING SYSTEM
An exciting opportunity for the South African Industry
SHIFT, already importing the conditioning MYCOLOR tint range, discovered the 72 HAIR Smoothing System, a certified vegan range, from the UK and forged a lasting partnership with the Green family and founders of the 72 HAIR brand.
Then, March 26th 2020 hit... BOOM, we were in lockdown and COVID-19 had hit us like a wrecking ball. Everything worldwide came to a grinding halt!
“Following the principles and foundation of what SHIFT stands for - change focus and do what you can with what you have - the focus shifted to online social media marketing, with the huge support of my partner, Julie Du Toit, a social media expert and very patient, loving supporter of me…Thank you my special person.
“Becoming more active on social media gave the leads for salons wanting to see the 72HAIR brand as soon as we opened up for business again. Back on track and building up was un-paused and we were on a natural high again”.
Doors started opening, and SHIFT began collaboration with HAIRCAIR in Cape Town, mutually supporting each other’s brands. SHIFT Hair & Beauty now works with multiple leading brands such as LABEL.M by Toni & Guy, TangleTeezer, Bluebeards Revenge, Invissibobble, LaTweez, That’s So Tanning…

The 72 Hair Story: For The Love of Hair
72 Hair believe in keeping things simple.
72 Hair is a keratin smoothing range, specifically designed to tame the frizz out in all hair types. This formaldehyde-free keratin treatment does not chemically change the hair structure, but rather bonds with the internal hair structure to eliminate frizz, and allow more manageability of the hair, whilst strengthening the hair and giving extreme shine.
Same-Day Smooth and Tint
What’s also fantastic about 72 Hair Smoothing System is that you can tint on the SAME day without any change to the colour pigments.
The general trend nowadays is not dead straight hair, but natural looking, manageable hair with movement, with a shorter blow dry time. By changing the development time and amount of time you flatiron the hair, you can either eliminate frizz whilst keeping the curl, or you can extend the development time, and number of passes with an iron to have a straighter, smoother finish, giving more flexibility to your clients’ needs.
Long-lasting Effects
Being a progressive treatment, it means that the more the client has it done in salon (usually every 12 weeks), the straighter and longer lasting the effect is. As a stylist, you can give your client exactly what they’re looking for with each service.
