Wella Color Expert: A Distinguished 9-month Programme to Mastery

In May, participants of the Wella Color Expert Programme concluded their highly challenging 9-month journey. This year, 24 experienced hairstylists from across South Africa participated in Wella’s most advanced educational offering, aiming to gain technical mastery and unleash their creativity. The programme culminated in a final exam where successful candidates demonstrated the highest level of colour expertise within the Wella portfolio, showcasing their technical precision, colour correction proficiency, and creative confidence.
Throughout the hybrid learning programme, participants took part in online modules, coaching sessions, and in-person classes where they delved into colour theory and correction. This journey was designed to develop their skills, improve accuracy, and encourage innovation.
The highlight of the programme was an intensive 4-day Wella Creative Immersion held at the mhb studio in Midrand, Johannesburg. During this event, participants collaborated in hands-on settings, attended masterclasses with Wella ambassadors, worked on conceptual projects, and formed real connections with their hair industry peers and mentors.
The final exam spanned six rigorous days in Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Durban. It included an online test, two written assessments, six comprehensive colour scenarios, a live model challenge, and a headblock task – not for the faint-hearted. This hybrid format of theory and practical application pushed participants to draw from all that they had learned.

Special recognition is due to Nikolas Anamourlis and Donovan Foti, who have impressively completed the Wella Color Expert programme five times – basically a PhD in hair colour … unofficially, of course! Their dedication continues to set the standard for excellence in the industry.
