Hairnews is so sad to hear about the loss of such a well known and well loved industry icon, who did so much for hairdressing, professionalism, and the SA industry during his long and successful career!
Garry's tribute is below.
RIP Nico Doman an Icon in the salon industry.
Today we say goodbye to Nico who passed away on Friday. There are not enough words to describe this dynamic power house of a man within the hairdressing industry.
I joined Loreal in June of 1985 and the story begins here. Never had I met a man more committed to his passion for the company and the industry.
There was never a day that his presence was not felt by all those who knew him. He mentored all who were willing to grow.
Nico was the master of the deal, a negotiator par excellence. He moved at the speed of lightning to get the job done. Nico always needed to get the job done, if you came up to an obstacle he would say “call the police, get a helicopter” just get it done.
He did everything with an unbridled energy no matter where he was. He was like trying to hold back a hurricane, he was relentless in his pursuit at getting a new client on board. He had a saying for every situation. He could not accept the word cannot. For him everything was about success and being the best. Success was built with “Cans not Cannots”. If you said it could not be done he would show you how.
There are many out there who owe their success to Nico who sometimes worked silently in the background helping those who needed support. Short high energy meetings turned in to long dinners. Deals were done with a hand shake.
There are so many memories to be shared of this incredible man. Nico I will miss our chats even when you were in pain and had difficulty in talking it never stopped that unforgettable laugh that came from deep within your very being. Every time I said goodbye I would remember something I forgot to say as we so often got side tracked but always knew we would catch up next time.
It is with great sadness that there will not be a next time, but your memory will last forever.
Rest in peace dear friend and strength to your family.
With fondest love from Garry and Nicky
