SYZYGY:
A conjunction or opposition
A collinear configuration of celestial bodies
To describe the union of opposite constructs
My collection explores the relationship between opposing constructs; the chaos of natural cosmic order and the beauty left in its wake. Drawn from the astrological definition of a syzygy, each image represents the potential outcomes of a catastrophic celestial alignment; tidal waves, eclipses, solar flares, thermal and gravitational phenomena. All natural occurrences that can be both destructive and beautiful at the same time - “Understanding the union between opposing constructs, seeking beauty within the destructive forces of nature on a cosmic level.”
Syzygy describes the end of the world, birth of new life and the connection between a pair of opposites. I wanted my collection to be a commentary on looking beyond chaos to find beauty, and to showcase that through hair artistry. With the word so firmly rooted in astrology, I wanted my images to be vivid and cosmic in nature.
