L'Oréal Style & Colour Trophy Winner Shelene Shaer from Tanaz Hair has spoken before with Hairnews, sharing her thoughts on industry innovations and how to inspire young stylists to keep learning, take pride in education and make themselves available to accept any opportunity, to expand your knowledge and never stop learning.


What would you say is the most important element that you would like to see emphasised in the South African hair and beauty industry?

Education has become even more accessible to those inspired to learn. We have some incredible talented hair artists in South Africa and I have watched over the years how willingly they share their knowledge. It is so easy to look at the international space for education, but we have amazing teachers right here in South Africa.


Between this and the fact that the world has become so small, and the internet giving us access to individuals who share information on a daily basis, there is no excuse not to be educated in this time of the internet age.


What has your experience shown you?

I have always had curiosity and an ability to push myself harder. When I was younger, I did the odd course and with reflection, I could have done many more. The internet changed all that for me. There is not a day that goes by where I don't try to learn something new. This has made me a better hairdresser and teacher and most of all, a better student.
