It was a hot and humid day on 11 March in Durban’s busy port when the almost 120-strong MHB family set sail aboard the MSC Splendida on MHB Destination 2024 to Pomene. Stormy weather conditions at sea quickly transformed what began as a straightforward voyage into an unplanned journey directly to Mozambique.
In many ways, the change of course served as a powerful metaphor for unexpected detours and challenges faced by hairstylists and business owners and how they can be overcome – the underlying theme presented by guest speakers during the cruise.
Despite the rerouting, excitement and expectations ran high and the aptly named MSC Splendida provided a splendid setting for the 5-day cruise.
Days 1 and 2 included a loose itinerary that included plenty of leisurely time to reignite old friendships and make new ones. There was time to explore the vast cruise ship or to disembark for a sightseeing excursion in Mozambique. Planned activities included a Meet ’n Greet with MHB representatives and paddleboarding.

Creativity was the name of the game on Day 3. After a formal welcome from MHB MD Chris Stofberg, the floor opened to sessions from MHB brand ambassadors. These included tech-fuelled tips and tricks from Warren Schultz’s Transitional Videos, followed by an exacting lesson on Precision Cutting from Flo Neacsu. Charles Junior Louw and Jadie Herbst’s Social Media Journey underscored the importance of a digital marketing strategy, and Chad de Lange and Leoann de Lange closed the day on a high note illustrating how Cut and Colour Collab delivers the best possible outcome for salon clients.
