Best Online Education by a Supplier
Category Summary
Who rose to the occasion during lockdown and created an education programme that truly inspired the industry and helped people return to salons feeling prepared and empowered?
How to Enter
This is a voting category where you can nominate the supplier, educator or programme that you believe should win this award.

This award may be given to local or international education programmes, as long as they were promoted and facilitated by brand educators within South Africa
Best New Product / Range Launched Since Start of Lockdown
Category Summary
During lockdown was not an easy time to launch new products! We salute the brands who went ahead with courage and creativity to get their fabulous new releases to the industry. Which of these launches do you love the most?
How to Enter
This is a voting category where you can nominate the product (if an individual product was launched) or range (if a range was launched) that you and your clients love the most.

You may nominate one product / range in your entry.
Please give a brief reason for why you are nominating this product / range.

Award Requirements
The Best New Product / Range can be either homecare, tools, or in-salon colour, chemical or treatment.
If a whole range was launched, the whole range must be nominated.
If one product was launched as an addition to a range, or a tool was launched, then that individual product or tool can be nominated.
The products nominated must have been launched in South Africa between 31 March 2020 and 31 January 2021.
Best Lockdown Leadership
Category Summary
Lockdown brought so many heroes to the fore, the people who showed calm leadership in the face of adversity, who inspired and encouraged those around them, who made the best of difficult circumstances even if they suffered personally or financially during this time.
How to Enter
This is a voting category where you can vote for the individual person who you think is a worthy winner of this award.

Your email heading should be Leadership Nomination.
Please also include your name, city / town of residence, and your salon name.
You may nominate one person in your entry.
Please state the person’s full name and a brief reason for why you are nominating them.

Award Requirements
Lockdown Leadership nominees can be anyone in the industry from a supplier to an educator, a sales consultant, a salon owner, hairstylist, other salon employee, or from an industry association.
These nominees must have been resident in South Africa during lockdown and may not be international nominees.
Best Salon Relocation
Category Summary
During lockdown there were many changes and moves within the industry. Best Salon Relocation is to celebrate the moves people made even though many were done for difficult reasons, and to showcase the beauty and happiness they created in their new space.
How to Enter
This is a judged category where you can enter your own salon.
To enter, email awards@hairnews.co.za with the information.
Your email heading should be Salon Entry.
Please include the following information:
• Why you made the move
• What premises you moved from, and to. I.e. moved from a mall to home, moved from large mall to small center, etc.
• What you aimed to achieve in creating your new space.
• Please attach 3 to 6 photos of your new salon with your entry. These should be no larger than 1 MB each in size and may be smaller.
Include your name, city / town of residence, and your salon name.
Include your contact phone numbers.

Award Requirements
Best Salon Relocation is open to salons of any size, small or large or one person. Home salons may enter. The salon must be based in South Africa. You must have relocated between 31 March 2020 to 31 January 2021, and done the salon’s decor and layout yourself (i.e. not a chair rental).
Best Marketing and Communication by a Salon / Stylist During Lockdown
Category Summary
Engaging with clients during lockdown was critical but not easy as the weeks and months passed. This category is to award the salons and hairstylists who maintained consistent, effective, positive and relevant communication and marketing during this challenging time.
How to Enter
This is a judged category where you can enter yourself or your salon.

Your email heading should be Marketing Entry.
Please include the following information:
• How you communicated with clients i.e. did you use Facebook, email, WhatsApp?
• The frequency of your communications / posts / shares
• What you aimed to achieve as the months went by.
• How successful was it and did you achieve your aims?
• Please attach links to relevant social media or else some screen shots of some of your most effective communications.

Award Requirements
The marketing and communication must be ongoing and you must show us your social media links, or at least one screen shot per month, from March 2020 through to July 2020. This award will be judged on content posted from March 2020 to July 2020. Entrants must be resident in South Africa.
Best Post Lockdown Makeover
Category Summary
After lockdown, many clients took the opportunity to do a more dramatic makeover. Whether it was a stunning ladies’ cut, an edgy barbering and beard makeover, a fabulous new colour, a complete new look or a brilliant transition to grey – show us the before and afters that you are most proud of.
How to Enter
This is a judged category where you can enter your own work.
You may enter up to three different before and afters.
Each will be counted as a separate entry.

Please include before and after photos of your work. (up to three after photos).
Include a short description of what the client wanted and how you achieved it.
Please include the client’s first name and confirm that you have permission to publish the photos on a public platform.

Award Requirements
This is to show the power of a makeover – whether gents or ladies, cut or colour, dramatic or more subtle. Entrants must be resident in South Africa.
Best Box Colour Correction
Category Summary
With regrowth on top of box colour, there were technical challenges to be faced after lockdown! Show us the corrections that you are most proud of when clients used box colour and then returned to have the results fixed up after lockdown.
How to Enter
This is a judged category where you can enter your own work.
You may enter up to three different box colour corrections.
Each will be counted as a separate entry.

Please include before and after photos of your work. (up to three after photos).
Include a short description of how you achieved your result, how long it took, and what products you used along the way.

This is to show the calibre of top class technical work and what it takes to fix and update a home colour while keeping the hair’s condition and integrity. Entrants must be resident in South Africa.
