Business Blog 19 July 2023: Business Is Great - If You Know the Formula

Business Goes Where It's Invited.

It Stays Where It's Wanted.

And It Grows Where It's Pampered.

For salon owners who know this formula, business will always be great. This is not just because they are working IN their business, but because they are working ON it.

And it’s not just about the turnover. For many reasons turnover fluctuates throughout the year, but a great business grows client by client.

What Are You Doing to Invite Clients into Your Salon?

There are so many ways that I sometimes fail to understand why salons complain of not having enough clients.

  • Pre-booking the next appointment. Not only will this guarantee a busier appointment book but could also result in an increase in clients spending of 15% a year.

  • Offer a second blow wave to all first-time cut & blow or chemical clients

  • Up-sell clients to new services - it has been proven that it is easier to sell another product or service to an existing client that it is to get another client into the salon.

  • Get existing clients to refer friends and colleagues - this is the most effective way of getting new clients into the salon and satisfied clients are the best way to do this.

  • Also be promotionally active - SMS, email, salon signage, print media, sponsorships, sell-through promotions.

How Do You Show Clients How Much You Value Their Business?

  • Body language - If your hair, make-up, dress sense and attitude are not speaking the same language you are not 'dressed for success'.

  • Time management - being punctual, keeping to appointment times and not keeping clients waiting speaks volumes about respecting the clients' time.

  • Provide a Professional Consultation every time you see your client and be honest with them about their hair and make professional recommendation with integrity, not just for the money.

  • Thank them.

  • Reward them.

Pamper Your Clients

This really is what separates the top salons from the rest. In the service industry perception is reality and if clients don't feel they are being pampered to the point of believing that it is all about them, this lack of pampering will stifle the growth of your business.

The key is to pamper with a purpose and the purpose should be to give every client the best hair they can have. This can be best achieved if you always have something new to offer your clients which is why top stylists attend seminars and continuously look for inspiration for their work.

However, stylists can do nothing new for their clients until they get their client's permission.

In this sense, pampering is how you make your recommendations in a way that the client can ‘SEE’ the benefits. Communication is a key element of pampering.

Pampering pays off!
