2021 Trends from International Colorist Safy Burton

“Safy B” is a Goldwell colourist and member of the Fellowship Project Colour Team and has decided to brighten up everyone's days with her trend predictions for 2021. Just tweak the seasons slightly as these are given from a northern hemisphere perspective.

Clients sadly missed the opportunity to embrace and express their individuality through their hair during 2020, but 2021 is their time to shine and make a change – it’s time to embrace oneself again!

With salons hoping to open in the Spring, the focus turns to SS21 and the trends that will take hold of the industry - just in time for the longer days, more sunshine and warmer weather.

Colour Trends

Perfect Pastels

We’ve seen a huge increase in the use of pastels at the beginning of 2021 and this is only going to become more popular as we approach the Spring. Shades such as mint green, lilac, rose and peach will be the top four trending shades this season. It’s all about the light and fresh atmospheric vibe.

Cosy Copper

Before lockdown there was huge demand for beautiful and rich copper tones. These have been hugely popular throughout Winter and will stay in trend until the Summer months, gradually becoming lighter and more subtle as we get into Autumn. Glowing Copper will be the colour of the year for redheads!

Embracing Natural

It was amazing to see clients embrace their natural hair colour and texture throughout 2020. It’s something many clients are hesitant to try during their normal day-to-day life, however during lockdown this was needed and became very popular! Those who embraced their grey hair will continue this trend into 2021 and will get much more creative when it comes to the cut and shape of their hair. Working with what you’ve got makes things much more exciting and unique!

Styling & Cut Trends

Movement

You guessed it, movement and natural curls are back for 2021 and I could not be more excited! Clients will be looking to add some choppy layers and textured cuts to give different dimensions and movement throughout their look, others will embrace their natural curls and look to make them bigger and beautiful once more.

Short & Sharp

For those with shorter styles it’s time to get creative. Sharp cuts with strong base lines will be super popular featuring lots of texture throughout the top, back and sides.
