Jawad Maphoto, owner Lajawi Hair, is fondly known in the industry as the hair stylist to the stars, whose clients include Joan Ramagoshi (Miss SA 2000), actresses Terry Pheto and Minnie Dlamini, TV presenters Toke Mankiwa and Carol Manana, singing stars Tiwa Savage and Asa, and Bonang Matheba.

Jawad initially studied Electrical Engineering but says he knew it was a mere deviation on the road to a career in hair.

“I think I’ve always known hairdressing was always going to be my full time occupation. I love the creativity, the need for artistic awareness. I find it appealing that I have to work closely with the person whose hair I’m styling. Human contact is a wonderful thing.”

Since opening his first salon in 2007, Jawad’s motto has been: Keep Learning; Keep Growing. You need more than creativity to be successful; you need discipline too.”

The new salon is located at the Big Bird Petroport on the corner of N1North and New Road, Midrand, Gauteng. It offers clients extended trading hours, staying open from 8am – 8pm Mon to Wed, 8am – 10pm Thurs to Fri, and 6am – 5pm Sat to Sun.
