Hairnews was recently down in George, and chatted to the dynamic Neal Ellis, co-owner of the very successful TPO (Twincare Professional Outlet) together with Marius de Hart. Neal has some great advice for salons on their online presence and also keeping up to date.

Online Presence

There’s a saying: “If you don’t see it, it doesn’t exist”. If you are not visible, clients won’t know about you.

Even if your business comes from word of mouth, people will hear about you and then they will search for you to see what kind of work you do, before they book with you. Looking at your work makes a big difference as they will be able to see that you can do the type of hair and services they want. So even if you think you are getting referrals from word of mouth, your online presence and social media is still playing a role. Keep your postings up to date because online needs updating very frequently, at least once a week.

Your Skills

Keeping up to date is vital in terms of your skills as well as your online presence. There are so many incredible new products coming onto the market – Twincare has some phenomenal launches ahead – and it’s really important for hairstylists not to get stuck in the way they did hair, or the way they did business, 5-6 years ago. You need to move forward and get frequent training. Nobody knows everything, so don’t be afraid to ask your supplier and speak to other stylists. Our most successful salons are not afraid to come training and will not hesitate to phone and ask us for advice if they need it when using a new product. The more you know and the more you share, the more successful you will be.
