The nine Dark & Lovely Golden Scissors finalists from all around South Africa, attended a three day Boot Camp at the Dark & Lovely Academy in Johannesburg.
The Boot Camp is an incredible event that combines education on show work, advanced cutting and styling, and creating a total look for a competition including designs, themes, and mood boards.
On the first day, the theme for the Golden Scissors Finals was announced at Skyrink Studios, where the finalists were treated to a fabulous show put together by the Academy team. The theme, “Queens of Your Imagination” inspires the finalists to fine-tune their show work, creating imaginative work that has an editorial feel without being over-the-top. This was a creative treat for the finalists, as well as providing guidance on the artistic challenge of how to create a total look according to a chosen theme.
The talented and super-skilled finalists Promise Malele, Gaamangwe Tekana Moleta, Lucretia Philander, Thabiso Warren Msiza, Vuyokazi Tshazibana, Matitimane Sibuya, Karabo Selomon Phoshane, Thabiso Thobane and Tsietsi Petrus Mothamaha had the opportunity to network with each other while drawing from the incredible creative knowledge of the Dark & Lovely Academy team, headed by principal Mimi Biggar.
The second day of Boot Camp was spent at the Dark & Lovely Academy’s luxurious and well equipped premises. A cutting demonstration and workshop showed how to create a look and adapt it over the months, so that the client’s hairstyle can keep evolving and changing. Different styling techniques were explored and explained. In the afternoon, the group collaborated with a clothing designer to receive up to date information on fashion trends.
The final day was dedicated to mood boards, fabric choices, designs and themes... ensuring that in the finals, the total look will partner perfectly with the chosen hairstyle to carry through the theme.
