Ten of the hairdressing students at Christel House, where Intercoiffure runs their Education for Life programme, were recently invited to a barbering seminar organized by Wahl in Woodstock. The school arranged their transport to and from this event. Thanks to Intercoiffure, Wahl and Christel House for empowering these disadvantaged students.

More About Intercoiffure Education for Life

The Intercoiffure Education for Life project at the Christel House school in Cape Town is already in its 7th year.

Christel House is a school catering for children coming from poverty stricken communities with 720 students from grades R to matric. A room was made available where those students interested in hairdressing could enjoy learning the basic skills of the trade. Instead of doing sport, they could attend classes 3 afternoons a week. Extremely generous sponsorships both from overseas and locally made it possible to install a salon with all the necessary tools and equipment.

The talent amongst the students is unbelievable and many of them are able to work in salons over week-ends and holidays, thus earning some money and assisting in providing food for the family table. They also enjoy doing the hair for friends and family. Above all, they have gained confidence by learning how to communicate in a professional manner.

During the past year Davines have sponsored all chemical products. In collaboration with the Carlton Group, a teacher from their academy has come to assist at the school every Thursday afternoon.
