In a fabulous industry first, Andrew Barton, who is one of the biggest names in hairdressing, has been awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Arts from Southampton Solent University. The ceremony took place on Tuesday 11 July 2017, making this iconic hair artist the first ever salon professional to receive such an accolade.

Andrew said, It's such a great honour to receive this Doctor of Arts from Solent University - not only for me but also for our great hairdressing industry. As hairdressers we have the power to not only transform how someone looks but how he/she feels about themselves. It's wonderful that this amazing industry has received the recognition it deserves as an Art."

Andrew’s work has appeared in global magazines, TV campaigns and print advertising, and he holds a string of awards including British Hairdresser of the Year and British Hair Icon. He is Creative Director for Urban Retreat at Harrods, one of the world’s biggest hair and beauty destinations, and he travels the world, sharing his hair philosophy, presenting hair education, and nurturing new talent.
