Marlien Onderstall has been working in the hairdressing industry, with the Maison Costa group, for more than 50 years, and this superstar remembers when the industry was very different.

“When Maison Costa introduced hairdressing for men, there was a separate downstairs section where they would go. At the door, the men would look left, right and left again to make sure nobody was watching, and then they would quickly walk down the stairs and come to the salon. Even if their wives were upstairs, they would not contact them or come into the ladies’ section. Everything was done in great privacy – there were curtains by the backwash stations and at one time there were also curtains in the styling stations.”

How times have changed and how society has progressed over the last 50 years!
