  • Ursula Brett: Social Media Tips for Salons

Today’s Tip: Possibly the best tip to keep in mind across all platforms is that people go on social media to be entertained, and not to be sold to or marketed at. So, ensure your content is designed to firstly engage and secondly to market. Adding something useful to your audience is critical and an authentic approach can help your business save time… a genuine thought-out post can bring more interaction than dozens of awful posts. About Ursula: Ursula Brett has been in the professional hair and beauty industry for almost 30 years, marketing top brands including Redken, Paul Mitchell, Matis, and OPI. With a passion for the professional industry as well as all-things-digital, Ursula is able to share her knowledge on marketing, websites, social media and how to optimise these for your salon. She's available to run your Facebook or Instagram or create your Website or to teach salon owners, managers and staff how to do this for yourselves. For more information email ursulabrett@gmail.com or message 076 856 4227.

  • Colour Transformation: In The Pink

The talented Kim Franklin Hickman, master stylist at Carlton Hair International, did this gorgeous transformation into a soft, trendy pastel pink. Here’s Kim’s how-to recipe: Becca Blair is a natural level 6 and before this service, her hair was already pre-lightened but with some root growth (see the first pictures). I pre-lightened her roots to a 10 level using Davines Ammonia Free bleaching powder with 20-vol (1:3). I then toned the hair to get a clean base using Davines Mask with Vibrachrom 30g 10/0 + 0.5g 2/21 5 vol (12) for 15 minutes. I dried the hair completely and applied Davines Ammonia Free (A New Colour), 7g Pure Colour Violet + 50g Creme Base +100g 5-Vol for 35 minutes.

  • Monday Motivator

Create a memorable and repeatable client experience – Tabatha Coffey. Tabatha Coffey, Australian hairstylist, salon owner and television personality, says salons need to stay as consistent and unique as possible – and don’t think clients won’t notice the small details. She tells a story about one salon where they had a bowl of sweets at reception for clients to dip into after their service. One day they took the sweets away – and clients noticed and began asking where the sweets were. That tiny detail had come to mean a lot to them, and they missed the pleasure of choosing a sweet when it was gone.
