Tell me a bit about your Salon? When did you start and why?
We started The Mix in June 2018, we wanted to create a collaborative creative space where likeminded stylists can exchange and grow together. My business partner Lindsay-jade and I wanted to break away from the normal salon ethic, and allow stylists to grow their business in a shared space, but as individual entrepreneurs.
What values are important to you and your salon?
Professionalism: It is vital to us at The Mix to be professional, this ensures our clients have the best experience from the moment they walk in to the time they leave.
Education: We make sure that all of our work is not only amazing, but kept completely current through constant education, especially when it comes to product advancements and technology.
Empathy: We work with likeminded stylists who are aware of each other, and each other’s clients at all times. Communication is key internally and with our clients, to make sure that expectations are managed, and services are delivered in a thoughtful and detailed way.
What do you love most about REF?
Kevin Tabilo, for one, is probably the most energetic, and driven force behind a brand. As a salon, we want to work with brands that we know will support us, and are sincerely interested in our growth. REF is a classic, new age product, which is a cruelty free and almost completely vegan, which is so aligned with what is globally important. The simplicity of the product makes it really easy to communicate with your clients, and the products truly celebrate the natural textures of hair, which is totally our style, and that is why we love REF.

Can you give us a step by step on how to create one of your favourite looks using REF products ?
For the ultimate textured blow dry I start with the Leave in conditioner and layer the texturizing spray over that on damp hair. Dry to style and finish off with cold air to seal the cuticle. I always finish off with dry shampoo to help my style last longer and give more volume. Wonder oil the end if necessary.
